I saw GL in San Diego yesterday in San Diego at Seaport Village.

I was walking along the waterfront and took a break to catch some rays and watch the ships come into the harbor. When I got up I walked past a bench where I saw someone who looked familiar. I made a second glace and thought: Is that George?

He was sitting with a lady older than him. It could've been a relative, or just a friend. As I walked past, he looked at me, but I kept on walking. I looked back and decided it was him. He was in a t-shirt and shorts. He had a very red face from being in the sun, and had a very white beard. He kind of looked like Santa. I thought I should go back and talk to him, but I went and had lunch instead.

During lunch I decided to go back to see if he was still there. I looked around the corner and I didn't see them. I edge over for a better look and then saw GL on the other side of the bench about to do some window shopping. It was at that point that I was going to let him enjoy his anonymity.

No regrets, though. It would have been neat to approach him, but I'm not really a groupie kind of person.

So far, as a flight attendant for 9 months, I've served drinks to Bob Newhart and the guy who played Gina Davis's Chief of Staff in her president TV show. I saw Justice Scalia at the Denver airport, and I shook hands with Jessie Jackson at O'hare. And now GL. I'll talk to him next time, especially now that I know what he looks like when not in a flannel shirt and jeans.

I don’t think I could have not shouted obscenities, or at least given him the good ol ‘up yours’ arm gesture as I passed. Kudos to you for possessing such restraint.

I would not be able to give GL a hard time if I saw him in person. Regardless of what the prequel trilogy may have been his earlier work supplied me with too much joy to forget it.

Also, his recent appearance on The Colbert Report really made me respect the man more than I have in a long time.

My hatred has blinded me to the joy I once knew.

Thank you, Chef. That's exactly what I have been trying to point out for the last year. When it comes down to it, without Mr.Lucas there is NO Star Wars.

I think I would bite my tongue about the PT, and thank him profusely for releasing the original version of the 1977 Star Wars.

I bet you wouldn't say a thing if it came down to it. Heckling stars is harder than it seems because when you see'em in person they become a human being, not a celebrity.

You have a point.
However if there was no Star Wars we would not miss it anyway.

It's like thousands of projects that never saw the light of the day and that if were made could have become big hits. Since we never even heard of them, it's not really like we miss them.

If somebody paints you a beautiful picture and hands it too you, and says “you know what, this is for you.” And you take it, and you hang it on your wall, and it brings you years and years of joy, that’s great! And you can silently thank that person day after day for making life all that more beautiful.

But if that same someone, years later, comes and snatches the painting you so love right off your wall, and takes it back to his ranch, and defecates all over it, and then brings it back to you a few years later and asks for money before he hands it back - the joy that persons work once gave you becomes irrelevant. Instead of thanking him for the all the good times, you feel a strong desire to strangle him where he stands, and smash his shitty painting over his knobby head.

GL only re-released the original star wars because he knows he can leach more out of people. GL is a vampire - sucking the life and money out of people whenever and wherever he can. Fuck George Lucas. I’ve told off my fair share of celebs in the past (ok only 2 of them, but that’s plenty more than most people), and I have no doubt I could successfully shout nasty things if I saw GL on the street. Fuck him. Fuck him. Fuck him.

Well lets put our pitchforks down and think reasonably.
Sure if we all had the chance to see or meet GL we'd no doubt have somethings to say.

But really, this man has been in the business for a long time, any negative comments or changes to either trilogy you might have in mind would be worthless.

And what makes you think he doesn't have some highly trained unit of commandos on standby if he runs into an angry mob of fans.

Sometimes it is better to just smile and nod rather then screaming wookie profanities at the man who gave us star wars, over and over again.

Pah! Thats never the answer. Violence and profanity solve everything. Maybe if he hears it enough he'll get the picture and stop defiling our beloved classics. Or maybe he'll get so frustrated he’ll accidentally walk into traffic.

I had a boss who told me that one of her employees (a teacher) came in to yell at her every day about all the shit that was happening under her leadership at the school. My boss (who was once a friend) told me that her job in regards to that employee was to let her yell at her so she would be able to otherwise perform her duties with her students. I am no longer friends with my old boss -- she screwed me over at my last job -- but the urge to get back at her was very tempting. In the end I didn't do a thing because I didn't want to waste my time.

We have to make choices in life all the time. Should I have gone up to GL? Should I have told him (again) what he fucked up in the PT? Should I have gushed about how SW changed my life?

I always have to remember that SW still ends with ROTJ (and the lessons it teaches us). Not with ROTS.

Thank you njamilla!!
You achieve nothing by lashing out.

Had u screamed at GL,
he would've probably just accepted your advice and
your view on his work, continued his little walk
then gone home to his millions
