Recently one of my power supplies became faulty. Two capacitors blew inside. I thought the squeeling noise was the fan dirty at first until the computer kept on switching off with the power led still lit.

I brought this cheapo power supply in around January 2004 after my previously bundled 450 watt psu caught fire. It was the only one they had in all the local shops and I was desperate for something temporary. I already have an Enermax 550 watt, no problems with it yet.

At the moment I am thinking of purchasing some new power supplies for my others. There are too many choices for me to choose but I do know quality and stability on knowing what to get. I see some models of Seasonic has 4, 12 volt rails and Tagan's Dual transformer supply. Tempting... I have looked on power supply tests and the results were interesting. I like reading about exaggeration showed up.

Any thoughts?

When my power supply blew, I never even bothered looking up how many rails it had or anything. I just needed about 5/6 of those white cords (LOL! Sorry, I'm so not technical with this stuff), and I was happy. I got a 450 PSU of a fairly well known brand, and so far it's proven to be reliable. smile.gif

I think you should just get a generic PSU, with a reliable brand name, and you should be okay. smile.gif

I brought an Enermax EG701AX. Pleased with the performance and voltage accureacy is not so bad.

I am planning to save up for the Enermax Galaxy 1000 watt power supply so this older one I got here can go on the file server for when I connect more drives.

Here is the mistake I shouldn't have brought:
