I love rap....It gets in my head and won't leave....the steady beat and rhyme drive me crazy. But i love it all the same. The problem is: not everyone likes it, which they should.

People have good reasons for not liking rap these days. Mostly because hip hop has been replaced by hip pop. Its all stupid club music now that is practically meaningless. The Game, Mos Def and Outkast are pretty much the only ones around now days that are even worth mentioning. 50Cent isn’t bad but his last album was kinda boring. Eminem was amazing back before encore came out. That album was a disgrace. Nobody will ever compare to 2Pac though.

Hip pop is what sells though. If I want meaningful music I won't be looking for it in the rap section. I'll pick up some interpol, oasis, etc... If I want sexy garage rock I'll blast morningwood. If I want silly stuff I'll listen to Hip Hop.

I followed Eminem from day one. He started to suck after the slim shady LP, imo. His first CD was awesome. Every other one has been mediocre. He adopted Dre's standard beats and phat bass line in exchange for the creepy tunes he played on SS LP, which is what made that album. He left the world of perverse and twisted and started telling me about his mom, daughter, and even managed to stick in his political agendas. Encore is probably the worst album since it encompassed all that was bad in the last two albums.

Brain Damage is an amazing song. I don't think he's topped that one yet.

Hip hop is best appreciated if you start with the indie/experimental hip hop and UK grime scenes instead. A brief list of my personal hip hop/grime reccommendations:

A Tribe Called Quest - "The Low End Theory"
Aesop Rock - "Float"
Beastie Boys - "Ill Communication"
Buck 65 - "Man Overboard" or "Vertex"
Cage - "Hell's Winter"
Classified - "Boy-Cott-In The Industry"
Danger Mouse - "The Grey Album" (Beatles vs. Jay Z mashup, helped kick start the mashing craze)
Dangerdoom - "The Mouse & The Mask" (Danger Mouse, MF Doom & Adult Swim characters)
De La Soul - "3 Feet High And Rising"
Del The Funky Homosapien - "Both Sides Of The Brain"
Deltron 3030 - "Deltron 3030"
Dizzee Rascal - "Boy In Da Corner"
Edan - "Beauty And The Beat"
Gym Class Heroes - "The Papercut Chronicles"
Kid Koala - "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" (great scratch DJing)
K'naan - "The Dusty Foot Philosopher"
K-Os - "Exit" or "Joyful Rebellion"
Lady Sovereign - "Vertically Challenged"
M.I.A. - "Arular"
MF Doom - "Mm...Food?"
N.E.R.D. - "In Search Of..."
Northern State - "Dying In Stereo"
The Pharcyde - "Humboldt Beginnings"
Quasimoto - "The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas"
The Roots - "Things Fall Apart" and "Phrenology"
Sage Francis - "A Healthy Distrust"
Schoolly D - "Welcome to America"
The Streets - "A Grand Don't Come for Free"

There are others that are worth noting, but I mean really...If you own even a small portion of that list you have a nice sampling of unique and interesting hip hop to listen to. And of course, there's the classics:

NWA - "Straight Outta Compton"
Public Enemy - "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back"
and pretty much anything by Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five.

It's incredibly unfair to judge hip hop by what you see on TV and hear on the radio. There's a huge scene of incredibly talented artists out there.

Yes, but it was an INFORMATIVE and INFORMATION-FILLED reply.

Unlike, say, that was an excessively long reply.

I'm sure that he noticed whilst typing it.

Wait...you're a part of a message board--which requires reading--and you don't like to read? Have you stopped to consider the fact that there is something wrong with that statement?
