I am in love with Ocarina of Time and it will always be totally awesome to me. I played it when it first came out, and I was going through a really bad break up. I spent a solid two weeks in the magical world of Hyrule, and the euphoria of the bright colors and happy sounds imprinted on my subconscious and really kept me from hanging myself in my closet. So I guess I’m a little biased. And that was the first game I ever played that looked totally awesome. Everything was 3 dimensional and shiny and new. Keep in mind, I’m not a video game connoisseur so I didn’t have a lot to compare it to. So you guys can hate all day long, but that game will always be my favorite.
I still play it ever summer, just for old time sake.

Actually, I was referring to the only version I've tried (NES), which didn't even have good graphics, but I'm guessing that apart from that, it cannot have changed much.

I'd say it has. Ocarina was the first Zelda game I ever played, and I personally think it's the best. Like Miss Abbey said, they did a brilliant job of creating the world. For the time it was released, there was nothing that could match it graphically. I think it was one of the first games to include facial expressions, and the character movements seemed very realistic. Sure, Links nose was a triagonal pyramid, but apart from that it was brilliantly made.

The NES Zelda’s were great, except I still cant get past level 2 on any of them. They were really hard back then, and I still find them terribly difficult. I think a lot of it has to do with the time your willing to commit to playing a game, and I’m just too busy to figure out under which bushes all of the magical artifacts are stashed. I’ve heard a lot of people say the original Zelda is one of the best games ever. Sure you cant compare it to anything now, but back then it was state of the art.

This is by far the worse Top X Games of All Time I've ever seen. I often disagree with alot of thePC Gamer choices, but I can't find a single one on this one that a agree with.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IS the best game ever. The only adventure game I saw in there was Grim Fandango, now nothing against the game, but it is would not be in my top adventures of all time, so to say its worthy of being the best games ever over Monkey Island, or other games is just blasphomy.

Too many games released in the last 2-3 years. I think if you're going to make one that claims "ALL TIME" should not take anything that has just been released. Games need time to mature, and see how they age out before you can get away with saying its a Top X Game.

Maybe right now Half-Life 2 is seen as awesome, but in the future, are people going to go out of their way to track down a copy and play it again? Let's put it this way, I bought it, played it through once. I don't plan to play it again. I've played through and completed Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time atleast 7 times (I know this game is there, but it's not number one!). I completed Monkey Island 1 and 2 over 30 times each. I played Max Payne 2 through, once. I played Max Payne through atleast 15 times. How can a game that you only play through once be one of the best games ever and not a game you've played through hundreds of times. I played Chaos Theory through once, it was good, but I would play it again. I'm just disappointed that they would knock Zelda for a game that came out a year ago. No just no. They suck, blah blah blah blah. Death to IGN AND KFC.... I declare a Jihad on them both... They both end now! Death to the infidel!

... oh yeah, its a Readers's Top 99, in that case. They should probably take down the site, obviously the readers don't actually have a flying fuck what they on about. Protest by refusing to use the IGN site until they agree to change it to atleast one that only has a few mistakes, rather than just one big mistake.

Ocarina of Time is an awesome game, one of the best in the Zelda series. I also like Link to the Past on SNES.

So the public's opinions are stupid. Big whoop. As if someone didn't know it already.

*falls off his chair laughing*

Oof... Good one.

Seriously, the first Zelda didn't have a great plot because of technical limitations. But things really changed in a couple of console generations and Ocarina of Time had an awesome storyline. And the gameplay wasn't just monster-slashing either, there were quite a few great puzzles as well. Like the whole Stone Tower Temple thing where you have to invert the world and walk on the ceiling... Although, that was in Majora's Mask, but... well, yeah, you get the point.

There are a lot of franchises doubled up on that list and with no particular reason (Halo/Halo 2, GTA3/GTA:VC) and some games that won't leave a legacy. But whatever.
