Haha, women don't have the choice any more. Where I live, if you have kids, the husband must make a lot of money to beable to support the family.

Every mother I know was a working mom. Save mine (health issues) and my friends (very wealthy).

Even some of the really wealthy moms I knew still had jobs. My sister is married to a wealthy man and she still works with two kids. She can work from her computer and occasionally must go to deliever speeches.

I think the rise in divorce rates has shown women that they need to be able to become independent of their man. And if need be, pay all the bills on their own.

Girl Guides is like boy scouts, really it is. Boy scouts is so watered down that it's a mere shadow of it's past glory.

My father put me in scouts. He did the who shabang. From 5 to 18 years of age he did that beaver, scout, rover, queen rover shit. When I left after a year, he was not upset. Back in his day, they shot guns, went camping frequently, and went on practical field trips learning about how stuff works and why nature is important.

Today, it consists of sitting in a circle in some stuffy building, listening to some fat fuck talk about the time he broke his back and how the doctor shaved bone of his leg to connect the crack in his spine. When thats over you do stupid boring crap which is unintersting. IF you don't have your hands clean and your uniform in perfect order, you get a demerit.

The incompitence of the leaders is my best memory of that organization. We went camping in the winter one year high up in the mountains, around whistler. Long story short, our leader, some stupid broad, got us lost while hiking. We did 3 circles and were way over due on getting home. With temperatures dropping and the sun going down, I grabed the compass and map from my quasi-hysterical leader and brought us home.

It was my shining moment and made the whole Scouts expirence worth while.

look, guns are fucked. shooting people is for coward assholes with such little apreciation for life that their not willing to do more than squeeze a trigger to end a life.

black people are americans with black skin. it's not racist its what the situation is. african american is a stupid term. i don't call myself an euro-asian-australian. you're black, deal with it, be proud of it, but don't make an issue of it because making an issue of it was the problem in the first place right?

you don't have the right to start telling people what to call you only what not to call you. otherwise i'd declare myself a minority and have everyone adressing me as "lord barend sexy motherfucking dragon slaying king of the universe." and have more right as there are fewer me.

people do have a tendancy to move to a country and then dump on it. america like everyother country has rules. their rules, not guidlines. if you want to talk, don't go to the library. if you have a problem with that go buy a fucking a book you cheap ass and read it at home aloud. if you don't agree to the 'terms of use' then don't take part. america, dispite popular belief, is not the only country in the world. and same goes for any country you plan to move to.

i wouldn't move to france unless i spoke french (well more than enough to get my face slappped anyway).

it's not racist to expect permanant guests or new members to follow the club rules.

at the same time, however. you walk into a sushi bar or yum cha reseraunt don't give people shit for not speaking english, most of the people there are just visiting relatives half the time and earning some dosh. or alternativley they haven't been here all that long, so cut people some fucking slack. learning a new language doesn't happen overnight, and in many cases you may have to forgive people for not taking a two year course in 'speaking english like a monarch' while being shot at by the military force taking over their tiny little country.

Isn't part of the the abbreviation NAACP; "colored people"? Still, even in this age?

When I was a little boy I had a neighbor friend who was a colored person. Show's how old I am I guess. I was trying to relate, and then I realized that outside of work, I don't have any black friends.

Of course there's the lady I meet to practice tennis with every Tuesday. Forgot about her. smile.gif

I've just been realizing how so many people still are so recially segregated. When I went up to Boston for a few days this summer with my best friend, we counted how many non-white people we saw, and I think we got up to like 12, most of which were Asian kids around Harvard so they were to be expected. Also, when I was in upstate NY, I didn't see a single nonwhite person, and the friend I was staying with has no interaction with black people there except for one guy he would see every once in a while at work. Since then, I've been asking around, and I'm finding out the the south (of the good ol' US of A) is more diverse and less racially segregated than the North, even though we're the ones that get all the flack for being racist. Black and white (and Indian and Muslim and whatever else) all interact every day and no one thinks twice about it, and it's very very rare for someone to not have any friends of a different "colour." And yes, we have some racist cocksucking rednecks, but I actually see more racism out of the Yankees I know, and I think it's because since it's rare the races interact, they are more likely to think that the awful stereotypes are real, and so act on them...

I'm rambling. I apologize.

Nobody interacts with muslims. I'd say in any big city you'll see lots of interaction. Outside in small towns, maybe not. New York is really diverse, I don't see how people would avoid one another there.

No, Jordan, she means the entire state outside of the City. As someone living in New York, I never see any evidence of racism or segregation.

Spoon: There are all ethnicities here at RIT, and nobody cares. The cities have their populations of minorities if you take the time to get off the highway and look around the non-commercial areas. I don't at all understand how the fact that there's a lower evident population of non-white people somewhere means that it's segregated and racist. It's not our fault that either there's a lower population of non-white people, or that you don't often see them when you're visiting the area and going to tourist traps. You're also being fairly prejudiced, assuming that the Asian kids must be smart and affluent to go to Harvard based on that stereotype. The whole more racism due to lack of interaction falls flat on its face since it's just as easy to be racist and interact with races you dislike all the time. Racism is taught and reinforced. It takes more than just not knowing much about a different group of people to incubate xenophobia and general hate.

Haha, Slade, the bit about Asian kids was a joke. Sorry that wasn't clear. I was being sarcastic.

And I don't base this assumption on just some visits; I have a lot of family up North, been up there quite a few times, and have a lot of people to ask about this stuff, including Yankee parents that transferred South later in life. I'm sure it does depend on where you are and what specific people you are around, I was mostly just asserting that it's unfair that the South gets all the flack for being racist and racially prejudiced, and the North has the reputation for there being very little to no racism whatsoever, when the truth is, that's not how it is at all.

Horrors, look. It's Springfield Billy! (Hoot! Hoot!)

Thanks for bringing Yankee prejudice to the forefront, Spoon.

Absolutely. When I made my comment about Vegas, I didn't mean to denigrate the South (that should have been obvious, of course, since Vegas is not the South, so maybe this latest track wasn't inspired by me). I notice open racism even when I go to Seattle, and polite, casual racism here at home.

Hmm... Maybe I'm just sane and sheltered in that I'm not racist and have not experienced any racism, respectively...
