Yahtzee> I just want to say that 5 Days A Stranger is my absolute favourite Point-and-Click game. Though that probably doesn't mean a whole lot considering I haven't played a lot of those games. Anyway, after I beat the game I thought how amazing it would be as a movie. Not a live action one, but a animated one created using the program 3D Movie Maker. 3DMM has been around for nearly 11 years and it still has a fanbase of people who make and exchange better movies now that they've learned how to mod the software. I actually started on a 5DAS movie some time back and reached the scene where Trilby meets Phil, but I stopped it because I couldn't get your permission since I didn't know about these forums, and my e-mail account was messed. But here I am now, and I'm asking: "Will you allow me to make that movie?"

As a seasoned 3DMMer I would have to advise against it. You especially wouldn't be able to make anything decent enough for public viewing without some substantial V3DMM work, which I suspect you wouldn't be willing to do. Also, if you negate the element of user interaction by making a game into a movie, you'll definitely lose the element of horror and suspense, especially with such an inherently primitive program.

HMC> I trust you've seen DERELICT? That was scary enough to draw my attention off the goofy-looking character models. Still, you've got a point. I'm not a 3DMM master though I have adequate experience with V3DMM, my only real obstacle is that I'm not a patient person. I managed to get 5 minutes done on my 5DAS movie before I realized I shouldn't continue until I had Yahtzee's permission to do it in the first place. Still, I was satisfied by what I had, especially the opening scene of Trilby parked outside the mansion and giving his monologue. The scene was somber and atmospheric with the mansion standing in the distance as a dark, ominous shape against the dusk sky. Trilby's words rolled off the screen to the opening theme I lifted from the movie DEAD AND BURIED, which I thought sounded alot like the theme for the game, except orchestrated instead of MIDI. And besides, if I were to go ahead with this movie I wouldn't copy the game word-for-word and puzzle-for-puzzle, though not doing so would be a problem considering all the puzzles in the game were logical and ESSENTIAL for expanding the plot unlike most Point and Click games. I know the whole idea of making this movie on 3DMM is stupid, but the idiot in me wants to give it a try. If Yahtzee doesn't want me to do it, I won't.

It did get through. Twice, in fact.

Anyway, it was better than I thought it would be, but I still don't think it would suffice as a whole movie; neither as a 3DMM movie nor a standalone movie. It takes quite a level of skill to eradicate the need for a suspension of disbelief that is required for watching most 3DMM movies. It's not enough to merely have awesome graphix in 3DMM, you have to have directoral skills and a sense of style that you don't seem to have yet. Sure, Derelict was great, but you're no Andrew Johnson. Besides, the use of text wouldn't work well at all. Neither would default actors. 3DMM is a program designed for kids, you must remember. That's a hell of an obstacle.

Also, are you a member of the 3DMM community? You're skills are lacking, but you seem to be almost on the right track. You could get better.

For everyone reading this thread besides Scissorman and have no idea what is going on, this is what the movie consisted of:

HMC> Dude, I'm better than that now. That was a rough version I was working on before I decided to pull the plug and wait for Yahtzee's permission. I've been using 3DMM on and off for years, but I have never posted anything, I just made the movies for myself and my friends. If I do go through with the plan, then the final result sure as hell won't look like what you watched. I'm perfectly aware that it's hard for to draw serious attention from somebody with 3dMM movies, but it's fun making them anyway.

Scissor, since I'm working on a Trilby's notes (very) short movie, I have to tell you that you have my entire support. If you have enough time and patience, I'm sure you can make it.

But I have to confess that I don't know anything about this 3dMM program.

Those screenshots cracked me up for five minutes.

(Not because of the modelling, before you go and cry. I think the production is pretty faithful to 5DAS)

Do it.
As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I realised that it could do with a lick of paint.
