On Tuesday night around 8:00 I was walking home when I heard the sound of approaching doom! I turned my head towards the sky as the booming, approaching noise grew louder and louder. Overhead I saw two fighter jets fly in formation straight over my neighborhood. Through my extensive fighter jet research (read: finally seeing the movie Top Gun for the first time in 2005) I was able to identify them as F-16 fighter jets.

Seeing these jets I raced home to check the NY1 News. Nothing. I figured if there were fighter jets flying over my house that there must be something serious going on. It seemed likely that we had either been attacked by New Jersey or had deployed our forces to launch a preemptive attack on New Jersey's Bergen County.

I have still found out nothing about this event. I guess it's time I start cooking up some sort of weakly fabricated conspiracy theory.

Hmm, we used to have F-4s which I loved to see scream in the skies around Birmingham. (bumper sticker: "Jet Noise, the Sound of Freedom".)

I'm guessing it was part of a National Anthem / Flyover for one of the (baseball) playoff games maybe?

Given the age we're in and the proximity to your neighborhood, I can understand being concerned.

I saw 3 of them zippin' around from Harvard Square the other night.

I think they're just getting us used to seeing them so that an unnamed head of an unspecified North American country can do some politically underhanded carpet-bombing in heavily democratic voter blocs during the next election.

The last and most remote theory I would suspect is that George Lucas is using Manhattan as a make-shift backdrop for a brief scene he originally intended to be on Coruscant in his upcoming film..."Episode VII:The Truce at Manhattan",..err..I mean,.Bakura.

This film will feature members of Al Qaeda disguised as storm troopers bringing a message of peace to Manhattan, saying they are sorry for 9/11 and wanting the war to end. Meanwhile, on the flipside of the globe,.our dear friend Boba Fett, was somehow resurrected from ROTJ (maybe through clone technology..who knows)...and is hot on the trail of finally capturing the Sith Lord,..Osama Bin Ladenius.

But think of the terrorists! Fighter jets patrolling your town keep you safe from terrorists! It's our nation's security hard at work, and I think I speak for all Americans when I say that I'm proud to the military flying over me whenever they want. At least, I speak for all Americans who don't sympathise with terrorists.

Ahhh. That might make sense. Yankee stadium isn't too far away at all. However it was 9:00PM and they were flying directly north instead of southeast which is how they should have been flying.

Huh...small passenger plane crashed into an apartment building in NYC today, and the pilot was one of the Yankees' starting pitchers, Cory Lidle.

Weird.
