I don't know how many of you are aware of this event from CNN (the most depressing channel ever, by the way, I never watch it), but we had a riot here in Hungary last night. Some very intelligent people decided to move out to hold demonstration against the government, which turned into a huge riot when they were joined by some bloodlusted football hooligan assholes who had apparently no idea what the demonstation was about, but they were eager to break some faces. This mob charged into the HQ of Hungarian Television, broke some heads in (meanwhile the cops were standing still at the entrance with their plastic shields, didn't do shit, as seen on the footage), and stole some stuff. Around 70 policemen were injured in the process, and they were able to arrest 8, I'll say it again, EIGHT people altogether.
Today, while reading some forums pertaining to this issue, a lot of (extremist) right-wing dumbasses wrote that it was finally time for the Hungarian people to rise up against the oppressive, Satanic government (the socialist party). Even some of my friends, whom I used to consider intelligent, share this point of view!
What the fuck is wrong with these people?
Now, the university I go to kicked us out and closed its gates today as a preventive arrangement, as they didn't want any riots to break out in there.

Many questions arise after such a despicable and embarrassing event, but the biggest question I ask myself, why the hell do we have to pussyfoot around with these criminals? At a time like this, isn't there supposed to be some kind of an assault team that cracks down on these assholes? A small number of highly incompetent policemen is all we've got when there's a riot going on? Is it because we live in a democracy now? So democratic that we let these shitheads run amok because it's their right to express their opinion? In the oh-so-evil-damn-it-to-hell communist regime, such an anarchic affray would've been unimaginable.

Please, share your thoughts with me on this.

EDIT: Please excuse me for the tone of my voice, but I'm pretty fucking pissed off at the moment.

Yep, that’s pretty much how democracy works. Your not allowed to club people who burn shit down, and your not allowed to take nude photos with people who want to crash airplanes into your skyscrapers. Because its mean. And if there’s people out there who don’t deserve meanness, its people who want to kill, maim and generally fuck shit up.

Damn those citizens and their possessing the rights of citizens, even after they break the law! They have some fucking nerve, huh? And then those ignorant, unfair Geneva conventions against torture and abuse. What were they thinking?

To be serious for a moment:

I'm very confused about this issue, as I'm not well informed. A bunch of idiots fucked up a peaceful demonstration, and your right-wing is blaming the riot on the people of the demonstration, aye?

In regards to riot police, there's only so much they can do, especially if they're outnumbered.

No, the problem is that the right wing, especially the extremist right wing actually SIDES with these rioters claiming that the Hungarian people have finally risen up against the oppressive government, some of them even going as far as comparing these troublemakers to the revolutinaries of 1956, which, by the way, is an outrageous insult for me, as these guys are not fighting for freedom (as we're living in a free country where you have the right to riot if you want), they just wanted to stir up a ruckus and loot/break a few things while hidden inside the crowd.
Recent news: some troublemakers tried to make more trouble last night again, but the police have been present, this time with strict orders to crack down on shitheads, so they cut short work of it. Bravo!

How do people rise up against a Socialist Government?

Ill say: 7,000 Soviet and 30,000 Hungarian casualties. I hope you do not live close to the rioters David. sad.gif

I don't, but my friend goes to school next to them, they were watching the burning cars during a particularly boring class. And it's easy to rise up against any kind of government; apparently, you just need to collect a few hundred of similarly fucked-up headed people, grab some bricks and throw them at policemen and other random people on the street. And claim it in the name of a righteous cause.

They don't have to be fucked up. They can also be SERIOUSLY pissed off. Or riot police can attack unarmed protesters. There are many ways for it to get messy.

Since when can the right-wing talk about rising up against an oppressive government that they don't believe in? Are they tired of being forced to pay people decent wages, not gouge prices, or keep their religion out of their politics or something? Normally (ideally) the left-wing seeks to keep checks on the government as a body... Again, I don't know your political situation, so I'm confused as to the motivations and issues.

I'll try to sum up the political situation in a nutshell, but remember that I probably won't be able to stay unbiased.

Basically, the reason people were pissed off was that the government had said before the 2006 elections that everything'll be OK if we elected them, the situation in Hungary is being very well stabilized, blah-blah-blah. Then, after they'd won the election, they raised all the taxes and are planning to abolish free higher education for those whose entrance exam was successful enough to be supported by the country, etc, basically, they're cutting off the edges, which, I understand, is necessary if we don't want our country to go deeper down the tubes. However, having kept quiet about this until they won the election was a really underhanded tactic, and they're bestowing a huge burden on society in an extremely short time. Moreover, life hadn't exactly been what you'd call easy until now either.
Now, the reason why many people got pissed off a few days ago, however, is because the PM said to his party members (NOT on a public occasion, someone leaked out a recording they'd made) something along the line of "This country's FUBAR." So, they've apparently been lying to us in the past four years, and we get pissed off even when they say the truth. dry.gif The leader of the opposition does not make the situation any easier, as he's constantly manipulating his henchmen and his electors to keep on wreaking as much havoc as they can, as this will weaken his opponent's position and strengthen that of his in the long shot, because he's a megalomaniac power-hungry arsehole. This isn't the case, of course, since most his electors have been fanatic hole-lickers all along anyway, and rational people who haven't voted for them yet usually perceive through this fucking disgusting strategy and will vote for anyone but them.

So you see the problem here: Lying Scumbags vs. Megalomaniac Arseholes. Not much to choose from, is it.

That Government doesn’t sound very Socialist.

There is a big difference, one has power in the Government and the other doesn’t.

A person who licks the edge of an arsehole. At least that’s what I think it is. unsure.gif

Ok. Just making sure Courtney Love was not involved in any way. That’d just be dirty.

sick.gif You need to do a better job of warning next time. Maybe make the letters bigger or something because I didnt quite get it until it was already too late.

Sorry, though, there should be a warning sign on Courtney Loves face.
