Yet another Lucasism, played out in the films. "I really can't explain this, but you paid for it. Let's just pretend that I did a good job."

Luke had it in him (son of Vader) to let out a mighty "NO" when he was whispering in ESB: "Ben, why didn't you tell me?" After all, he is the son of that character played by Christian Henderson.

Now I can picture Big boy Annie \ Vader Mocking his son
LUKE: NOooooo, that's not true. That's imposssible.
DARTH ANNIE: NOOOOOOOOOoooooo, thhaaat's noooooooot truuuuuuuuue....

Update on the Journal of the Whills "controversy" - I saw two people posting copies of this thing for sale on Amazon.com, but they were apparently draft scripts. I am suspicious, especially considering both were being offered for $250 apiece.

Further reference to Journal of the Whills is on the cover of the novelization of Star Wars, published back in 1976 or 1977. George Lucas is listed as the author.

Also, thank you to Johnny Cancer for the information about the Dark Horse comic timeframe. Yes, it was Dark Empire, but this "notoriously full of shit" friend was making his claims about Journal of the Whills before 1991.

P.S. Johnny, glad the miLADYblue bit was so amusing. It dawned on me that perhaps A Jedi Trait didn't realize I was a woman, because I did not respond in the way he was expecting in that thread. I hung out with the geek guys in high school, and more than once, they forgot I was a girl, and they managed to stop just shy of calling me gay when I did not react to a pretty girl, or on the occasions I ogled nice looking guys. My old buddy Steve had palm prints permanently embedded in his forehead with all the blonde high fives he ended up doing!

Hmmm...very curious. Well, I looked at the listing on Amazon that you were referring to and it's...well, odd. There's 2 entries; one says it's out of print; one says that there are two copies for sale. One of the copies says that it's from 1983; the other doesn't have much information on anything. So, yeah, I'd be suspicious too. I'm guessing this couldn't possibly be it, because if it's dated 1983 then it's not old enough.

I have also heard of the reference on the cover of the Star Wars novelization. Since I don't own a copy I can't verify this, but, usually this is credited as the source of the myth.

Most of what I've read about it - which admittedly hasn't been too much - seems to suggest that The Journal of the Whills only exists in George Lucas' mind. It would explain why there's no copies of it anywhere - it wouldn't explain why people would say they've read it; or where the storylines that are supposedly contained within it come from.

I wouldn't be so preoccupied about it, but, the fact that your friend's hypothetical storyline seems to explain some inconsistencies in the OT, and also appears later in Dark Empire just strikes me as odd. Not that somebody - especially someone who is notoriously full of shit - couldn't conjure up a storyline like this - but why bother to attribute it to the Journal of the Whills? At the very least I'd like to know the original source of the Dark Empire-like storyline.

Well, somebody needed to bring it up!

It's the basis for a ready-made antiquity. And it adds the essence of prominance. But mostly, it's young George, full of sh!t.

I like to think that the reason Yoda's death wasnt detected on the dark side, is because Yoda had effectively used the force to conceal the event from rippling over to the dark side.

An good master of the force has tremendously abilities at manipulating it to their whims.

As we saw in the OT, Luke had tried at best to conceal from Vader the fact he had a sister, we all know that Vader had no trouble at all reading Luke's mind like an open book.

I like to think of a scene from the film "Village of the Damned" (1995). In which Chris Reeve effectively conceals a hidden bomb from his ever mind reading nemesis.

By the way,.this is a great film that also features Mark Hamill playing the part of a priest.

Same reason Yoda and the Jedi Council failed to realise the guy sitting across from them in Episode II was a Sith. The Force is all powerful but those using it are not, although they can use their abilties to smokescreen their presence, as evidenced throughout the saga.

Yoda died when Frank Oz pulled his hand out.

I'll sell you a draft script for $250 too. How would you like it to end?

I'm just going to come right out and say it...

the prequels are to be ignored. Vader never met yoda and the emporer probably had only heard of him.

"I thought I could train him as well as Yoda" -Obiwan. suggests Yoda was unnavailable for tuition. Anakin was corrupted by his power as a result of a young naively half rate teacher and so Yoda never met him.

Thats how I see it too. The PTs are a separate reality from the OT all together. And KOTOR belongs in the OT universe, I dont care what anybody says. I'll throw down right here.

I like this, Barend. They never happened.

Infact I'll go one better:

Whoa! What's that? My Alarm? No! It's a phone ringing! Whoa! I've been asleep. It's a buddy on the phone and he's asking me if I want to go with them to see the new Star Wars movie. I say "What?" and remind him the next Star Wars movie is two years away. He asks what I'm on about, and tells me the first prequel opens tonight. First prequel? What's a "Phantom Menace" he laughs? Then I realize... it was all a bad dream.

I'll stop now because I don't want to wake up and realize that's a dream too.

I haven't played it, or you'd be certain I'd be hailing it's virtues. Surely there's a version I could play on the mac. Not that I have hours to devote to it right now.

Leia sensed Vader's death and redemption. Damn straight Palpy would have recognized Yoda's death (given a PT exists).

Ghostly Ben sensed it, and didn't miss his cue.

Vader obvi had a midiclorian malfunction. Minor surgery could easily fix it, but as supreme dictator in an effort to compensate for the vast amount of military spending, Palpatine cut health care for all government workers.
It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

SCENE: BEN KENOBI'S HUT, TATOOINE, INTERIOR.

Luke: What's the Force?

Ben: It's an energy field created by midiclorians; organelles which live inside our cells.

Luke: Um, dude... That's Mitocondria: They create ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) used as cellular energy. I think that's what you mean.

Ben: No shit?

Luke: Yeah.

Ben: Come let me show you my home brewing kit. There's not much to do living alone you know.

Erm... that's going a little far, in my opinion. It's like disowning Mad Max because you liked The Road Warrior better. unsure.gif
