crying.gif So it's been decided. Astronomy geeks around the world have convened in Prague and reached the decision that Pluto is not actually a planet. Due to the recent discovery of many small pluto-sized objects (and some slightly bigger) being discovered in a region on the outskirts of the solar system known as the Kupier Belt, Pluto has been determined to be not-so-special in that there are a whole bunch of these planetoids around.

What I want to know is what is my very elegant mother going to serve us now?! SERVE US WHAT, INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION?! DAMN YOU! You can't just leave us hanging like this!

Linkage

Edit: It always said astronomical.

Well I thought a large rock with some gravitational field is classed as a planet and since it is actually there proven by calculations why shouldn't it be mentioned as a planet?

Are they thinking that everything big in size is more important than the smaller objects.

You know, they pretty much explained their reasons in various articles, of which quite a lot have been mentioned on 'tis 'ere forum. RTFM, dude, RTFM. </friendly voice>

What? Nobody told me that ChefElf did an article about this subject. When I logged on this morning, the sneezing article was still up. How am I supposed to know he updates in the middle of that day? tongue.gif

RTFM, context I have seen, not nice.

I have already read it and that is what I understood from it.
Now I know it is about the name Pluto.

Read again until you really understand. (Geezus, are those articles really that difficult to comprehend?)

Here. They spell it out nicely at the bottom.

Thank you, that particular link explains it clearly to me. Classing similar size planets to Pluto as dwarf planets for their reason as a prototype. Maybe another group could be made for primary planets to include Pluto for when they discovered it. I still think it is a planet.
