I vote that he will.

Sometime soon, as I have foreseen, the puppet Yoda from Jim Henson in ESB, will be replaced by the flaky, fake-looking PT Yoda from CGI.

I vote he will too. I'm actually kind of surprised that it didn't happen already. I think the better question is, what will CGI Yoda be doing? I would guess that part of the point of putting a CGI Yoda into the PT would be to have him doing crazy anime flips and things like that - for continuity purposes I mean...

He mentioned that in the commentary of ESB - saying if he had CG when he created the film, he would have had Yoda "jumping" alongside Luke, instead of in his backpack.

I can't wait. </sarcasm>

Well, I guess that answers what he would be doing. Jumping beside Luke. =\ Wouldn't that look a little weird, though?

[sarcasm] This is going to be plain awesome to see the CGI Yoda training Luke! It will be so physical and action-oriented! [/sarcasm]

I am unclear, does GL here stand for Glide?

Where the hell does Lucas get this stuff? Why would Yoda be jumping in the first place? Nevermind technological limitations; Yoda doesn't "jump" around when he's walking in any of the PT; so why would he be doing this in the OT?

Hooray for continuity...

I voted "yes" as well. I feel that CG giddy George "Butcher for a Buck" Lucas will have to devour ESB and ROTJ with new and improved Yoda footage because the OT Yoda didn't make his point clear enough in saying "Judge me by my size do you?" So now with GL's money and "vivid" imagination, he's going to insert 3 minutes of extra footage of Yoda doing somersaults all over some cruddy stand in Luke. GL is going to rub in the fact that we should not underestimate Yoda because he's old, ... as if we didn't see this enough from AOTC and ROTS.

(sighs and shakes head) When will this end?!

Well, based on what KurganX posted, in his thread, "Lucas Hustles his fans into buying the movies one more time?" it seems like a CGI Yoda in the OT is only a matter of time:

and animation director Rob Coleman even let it slip that the puppet Yoda from Episode I had already been replaced with a new CG Yoda to match Episodes II & III for the "future" release.

I guess we still can't say for sure, but, this seems like a pretty good indicator.

Lol - I agree, it is crap. However, the context that Lucas was talking about was when Luke was running with Yoda in the backpack - it sound as though he wanted Yoda, in lieu of being hauled on his back, to instead be leaping over stones and flipping over vines.

In ESB, Yoda was on the verge of dieing from old age. So I doubt it would be even close to logical that he would be able to summon the Force for that extent of time while Luke was training. Hell, if he could do that, why not just summon the Force so that he could live for another 1,000 years? Anyone see where I am coming from?

His press agent or whatever supposedly said he would "never" do this.

But I wouldn't put it past Lucas. Basically at this point, he's capable of anything, no matter how lame, so I would say yes, he will. If not this time, then someday. You know he's just planning it.

It's like he's testing to see how much he can annoy his fans and still get their money.

If any of you believe this, I have some lovely beachfront property available, CHEAP in the Phoenix, AZ suburbs.

I voted "yes" because I would not put it past the crazy, money grubbing bastard to do such a thing, especially given the "special" editions.

Is it just me, or does "special edition" sound an awful lot like "special education"?

Well, that's an interesting statement, given the source. It wouldn't be such a big deal, except that it seems like we might never get the Original Trilogy on our terms (or even something close to it).

I know a lot of people have the attitude that they're Lucas' films, and he can do whatever he wants with them; but, honestly, this type of revisionist behavior scares me. It's not just making a few superficial changes. Star Wars, the 1977 film that won 6 Academy Awards, doesn't exist anymore. History has literally been erased. I know that's a bit of an overstatement. But, I hope people see my point. We can't just change the past because we don't like what's there. The original movie deserves to stand based on its own merits. That movie - the original that was released in 1977 and the sequels that followed - were part of our collective past; and one person took our memories and our emotions and altered them because he didn't like them. Lucas changed history. And that shouldn't be okay. Some things should be off limits. If we lose the past then we don't know who we are.

With a CGI Yoda, Lucas could add a scene in ESB where Yoda travels back in time to right before ANH. In this scene, Yoda trains Luke how to pilot an X-Wing and uses the force to create holographic TIE Fighters for Luke to fight against. After the training, Yoda gets Bail Organa's assistant to wipe out Luke's mind, except unconsciously keeping his piloting skills in tact. As a result, this would completely explain how Luke was able to get into a ship he never flew before and destroy a battle station the size of a planet in ANH.

Wow, this stuff writes itself...

Or, you know...maybe Luke just took flying lessons? You know, like the last time you lost this argument...
