QUOTE (Spoon Poetic @ Aug 18 2006, 04:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Personally, I can't believe you guys are actually doing exactly what they want you to do... tongue.gif I refuse to see this movie based on the grounds that they're playing off of human stupidity and the human tendency to be sheep; they're luring people in ON PURPOSE by making a movie so horrible that everyone will want to see it just so they can seem intellectual and pooh-pooh it and make fun and stuff. And if it succeeds, it will only encourage Hollywood to make more ridiculously purposely horrible films to try and produce the same effect.

And someone, please tell me... Is it true that they went back and added a scene where Samuel L. Jackson says "I'm getting tired of these m--f-- snakes on this m--f-- plane!" Because I read in a magazine article that the producers did that because of all the weblogs that say things like "wouldn't it be funny if SLJ said..." and "SoaP! How silly. I bet SLJ will say..." That really irks me.

It's like when someone smells something and makes a horrible face and says, "Whoo! That smells horrible! The worst smell I've ever encountered! Here, smell it!" and you're actually expected to smell it, when you've just been told it's horrible. Why? Just so you can agree? So you can have wasted precious seconds of your life (and in this case, a good $9) to be able to say, "you're right, that does stink."

...dry.gif

*end rant* I think I'm the only geek NOT going to see the movie for the very reasons everyone else IS going to see it. tongue.gif

Man, relax! Sometimes it's just fun to see a bad movie and revel in some glorious trash!

It's like a Big Mac (or whatever junk food you prefer)...those damn things are hideous for you and made from the worst shit on Earth...but they're so damn delicious you can't help but have one every so often.

Yes, I know my view is unpopular... *rolleyes* But I'm relaxed, no worries. I didn't think I came off as that tense... It's a silly rant, really. tongue.gif

Snakes on a Plane is the coming of age epic of our generation. Kind of like Stand By Me only with snakes... and a plane.

The reason I want to see it is because I love to sit in the theater with a few friends and riff on the movie, like in MST3K. I did it when I saw Final Destination. I did it when I saw the Patriot. Snakes on a Plane is going to be an easy target for some good movie riffing.

Yes, but that's exactly what the creators of the movie had in mind... "Let's make a bad movie that looks like we meant it to be good so that we'll get lots of money from all the people that are going to go merely to make fun of it! Muahahahaha!" tongue.gif

Except that the theaters are nearly vacant, because most people stay away from openly bad movies. If the profits of this movie make the production budget, I will be surprised.

I saw it, and I'm rather disappointed. It was essentially just a typical animal horror movie with a silly concept and title. I was kinda hoping for more, or maybe less. I don't know which, to be honest. tongue.gif Oh well. It's just a regular bad movie, not one that needs to try to be bad, so don't worry, Ms. Poetic.

Oh, and the trailers for the new movies coming out are enough to make me cringe. There are plenty of shitty movies debuting that think that they'll make money. There's not going to be a wave of deliberately bad movies being made.

Oh, I think that the creators think it's going to be a deliberately funny movie.

Wouldn't it be funny if Snakes on a Plane grossed more than World Trade Center?

QUOTE (USA Today)
After months of online buildup and frenzied media attention, Snakes on a Plane turned out to be just another horror flick. The Samuel L. Jackson movie did $15.3 million to rank No. 1 in an off weekend, according to studio estimates from Nielsen EDI.

...

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby was second with $14.1 million, followed by World Trade Center with $10.8 million. The college comedy Accepted opened at No. 4 with $10.1 million, which met most projections. And Step Up was fifth with $9.9 million.

I just had to share that. tongue.gif Really, I'm rather surprised, though to be fair, it's not a very successful opening boxoffice debut. It's not a triumphant number one slot.

Edit: Well, you said grossed, so that has yet to occur, but that bit of info is still entertaining.

Well, I never saw any advertisement for WTC, either. When my girlfriends and I were going to see a movie, we actually had to look up WTC to see what it was (besides being about the WTC, we're not that dumb). I think the amount of advertising a movie can do has a lot to do with how many people go see it, and SoaP definitely had the most there.

Almost all of the SoaP advertising was the hype over the Internet, which in retrospect was so fun and spawned so much silliness and entertaining fan sites and photoshopped images and stuff that I can forgive the movie for being regularly bad and smile warmly at what it left in its wake.

I'd love to write the screen play for the sequel, Bears on a Submarine, if I could get Sean Connery in it. tongue.gif

Huh? This silly movie critic actually took the damned thing seriously. tongue.gif Also, in reading about the movie premiere a bit, apparently in places with many fans, they had a much better time of it than my friend and I did, actually applauding at points and stuff like that.

He said it twice, in the same sentence.

The movie was awesome though, it was none of the overt silliness I was lead to expect and in turn made me enjoy the cinematic masterpiece of a lifetime.

Atleast it was the best airplane thriller I've ever seen.

I saw it earlier this week. Meh. All I have to offer is this very quickly made, poorly done image:
