By the way, how can I get my hands on a gun? I'm a med-scientist with no morals at all, and I'm itching to do some assassinating stuff. I'll start with the blonde chick.

For this you need to use the hacking tools on the shop's computer. It also allow you to buy steroids and learning drugs. Have fun going psycho at everyone. smile.gif

And if you loved seeing the twins, wait until you upgrade your berth, then you'll see quadruplets. wink.gif

Seems like there's a lot of people that decided to play that game these days, I'm playing it too, and if I can give you some advices for things to avoid so you don't end screwing up your game and have to reload, or worst, restart: Don't complaint about someone twice in 10 days and head to the Medsci after your complains, you'll end with a really salty Freudbot™ bill. And during the second assignment, the game will crash if you end up shooting the guard, so either make sure you're intelligent enough to avoid the encounter, or make sure your moral bar is full so your character will not shoot him at all and leave the place, this last one will cost you the mission's success, however, it's better than having to restart your character because you don't have the time to earn enough money for 80 learning drugs.

The game is great, but isn't in the game page because it wasn't polished and it would have more likely damaged Yahtzee's reputation to release it in its current state. And it wasn't polished because it was hardly beta testable. I guess it just take a few days of gameplay to notice it's not your average adventure game where you can reach anywhere in the game in a fraction of second. Not only the game is huge, but you got to click thousands of times, sleep, eat, get healed, work, date... and all the stats offers hundreds of possibilities to test. The only way this game could have been tested without a lot of pain in the process would have required lot of free steroids, free learning drugs, free Freudbot™ chatting, money, planning and a way to skip days.

Exactly my point. Still, I think it'd be worth it for Yahtzee to polish it to perfection, I really don't believe it'd be THAT much of work after getting this far with it. Of course, he lost interest in it, which makes it unlikely it'll ever be done 100%.

By the way, thanks for the blaster tip. Oh, and nice to meet you, in case you haven't been welcomed by anyone somewhere else yet.

Yes, I'm sorry--it's that time again to senselessly bump up old threads that should remain dead and buried.

During the holiday break I finally rummaged up the sanity, or lack thereof, to complete this game for the first time (I KNOW, I'M CRAZY!). I attempted it once before, but failed, but I think that was before the gameplay months were cut down to five.

Now I know Yahtzee isn't going to go back to this game or complete it, but I'm gonna post my comments anyway for the Yahtzee in the parallel universe where he did eventually complete this game.

---------------
Firstly, I always loved the core of this game, and it works well... for about a month. After the first month the gameplay becomes a repetitive chore and after about 2-3 months, it's exceedingly tiresome to play through the game.
My suggestions:
- Create a pre-programmed schedule option, so the player can set up a schedule and watch it play out for those boring weeks at a time where they would've just done the same thing.
- Shorten the game time by a month. I was able to complete every mission, get every upgrade, and max out all my strength, intelligence, and charisma by November, so the removal of that month wouldn't hurt the game too much. Besides, once I reached that, the game was pointless and I basically just slept until Yahtzee 25th.
- Add a new gameplay element for the second half to add variety to the mundane cycle of work.

Other suggestions/comments:
- The missions were probably the most fun part of the game, to see your avatar carry out tasks based on your personality. Another mission could be included based on your avatar's career path. E.g. At a specific time in your avatar's life, a crisis will reach the ship, which will be different depending on your character. For engineer, it could be a turbine malfunction, and the player must fix it. For soldier, it could be a security breach, and the player must fight off the enemy. For doctor, it could be a deadly virus, and the player must cure it.
- An experience stat might be nice to help the player see his work progress. I don't know how it could be implemented into the gameplay though.
- All if not most books are pointless. And trying to get Intelligence or strength raised by MORAL and LEGAL means is pointless.

- On a whole, the first portion of the game is fun, but once you max out everything and get stuck in your routine (about 1-2 months in) the game becomes boring. But still, I like the game a lot as a unique experience among AGS games, and a fun venture to spend away the hours.

He once considered the idea when he visited the chatroom. I must say you are very courageous, I've never managed to finish this game. I would surely have if I combined all the time I played this game because I played it 3 times in total. The first time a bug in the second assignment forced me to restard. The second time, I reached the third assignment but I stopped because I wanted to access the bridge and it seems like only the science officer carreer path could access it. The third time, the long and repetitive nature of the game bored me.

While it uses the same mechanics as dating sims, 5 months of in-game time is simply overkill when, unlike an ordinary dating sim, you need to manually walk around the station. You aren't given a GUI where waking, eating, washing, working, training, talking and sleeping can be accomplished less than 15 seconds and 12 button clicks; you need to walk around, repeatedly work, use ID card on job machines every time you want to work or purchase something... which consume a great deal of time.

Also, the game has a lot of possibilities for multiple endings but having to go through 5 months during the game counterbalance the multiple endings possibilities. When you finish this game once, you put it away, you don't go back and replay all 5 months to get another ending.

In my opinion, there's 2 ways to make this game better:

One, make the game shorter, a lot shorter, like a normal dating sim. A 5 months carreer should be achievable in a day maximum. After a week, you should have seen more than 85% of what the game has to offer.

Two, keep the dating sim elements: the calendar and day/night transition system, the possibility to be friend, to love or hate NPCs, the stats system... but accompany them with a crunchier gameplay. It could be an adventure game similar to GFW, but instead of trading, fighting and exploring the universe, you develop relationships with NPCs and make sure everything goes fine in the station. A game where the time constantly progress and every weeks bring new challenges, puzzles, missions and subquests for you to solve, tasks which could be easier or harder depending on how you maintain your stats and what are your relationship with other crew members.
