He'd have to be pretty damn desperate to look for ideas on these forums.

A world can spawn from a simple idea. Dont be so quick, Yahtzee might see a word on these forums and that word can start giving him ideas about his next game.

QUOTE (Willeth @ Jun 28 2006, 05:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Not really. The key to good business is to give the consumers what they want.

Oh crap, the reason Yahtzee is good is becouse he doesnt give a shit about what others think, about him or his work... if he starts "making everyone happy" then we'll be looking at a Deus Ex 2 or Resident Evil Outbreak 2.

Plus the consumer doesnt really know what they want, thats why thier the consumer.

Oh, absolutely. But I know that I'd rather make a game that I know people would want to play rather than one that would just amuse me - all that time and effort? Yeah.

I mean, he could make a game called OmniSuperCrapeater '98, complete with FMV, and we'd all shout his praises. But you see my point.

Look, you cant please everyone. Plus how much would it suck to make a game that you hate, thats one good thing about being a freelance game maker, no one to tell you what to do and when to do it.

Yes, but you see, it isn't a business enterprise what Yahtzee does.
I shudder to think what the game'd look like if Yahtzee made it so that it conforms to most people's expectations.

You're f*cking quick. You posted all these while I was sitting staring blankly at the empty reply box pondering how to put across the same ideas in a tactful way.

And all you came up with was this...

Cobnat, David-kyo wasn't being offensive towards you, I can't understand why you lashed out like that. How old are you?

I daresay Cobnat is right on this one though. A thriller/horror adventure game is going to more enjoyable if it surprises you, rather than conforming to your speculative ideas.

The entire idea is that this thread goes along rambling off ideas, Yazeeymoto goes along leading us with screenshots and insights as if he was designing the game to follow this idle speculation, then he releases the game which is in a completely different direction with venomed references at the entire masquerade.

For god's sake man, I was being appreciative! (This time...)
EDIT: I'm sorry if that wasn't obvious to you. I'm 21 by the way.

Oh, it sucks big time - one of the reasons I'm desperately trying to find a work placement at somewhere other than EA before I go on the placement, which is where I've been allocated.

Yeah... it's a bitch to find a job you enjoy, innit.

I think the statistic is something like 85% of people don't enjoy their jobs. Although that's probably a US figure.

How odd! We should get together some time!

Yeah, I'm just a student of the craft right now. Graduation is 2009. Just long enough for me to get to grips with design for PS3, Wii and 360 and then the new generation arrives. It's a well-timed course.
