Q - Why didn't the Tall Man kill Siobhan?
PA - Because he is a gentleman demon.
Q - Why didn't the Tall Man get the idol when he had the chance?
PA - We can't say he didn't need it anymore, so let's say he didn't see it.
Truly sorry to quote a post from the page before this, but, just for fun, I'd like to say that "Gentleman Demon" is an original character of mine
Anyhoo.
I shall go back to lurking around here. Waiting for something else to catch my eye. Bwahaha. Ahem.

P.S. Are you religious or what? If not, how in the world did you come up with such realistic cult texts and names of characters for your flashbacks?

I wouldn't think Yahtzee's as religious as that, at any rate.

As far as I know, Yaz is not a satanist, he's just crazy. And if he doesn't send you his address, tell me so I can send you mine. I want real cash, not cheque, please

And if a satanist could design a game like his, I may just convert...
Now, help me out with this for its been bugging me all afternoon: The guy who summoned the Pain Elemental in 54 AD was transformed into a tree, so that the elemental could feed off his unpleasant disposition. Couldn't kill him, needed his suffering/pain to feed off of right? I'm assuming the tree-guy's soul was trapped in the wood of the tree, made building, made harpsicord, made crate, made idol. The King mentioned in the notes I'm guessing was the Pain Elemental, the Prince the tree-guy trapped in the idol. Now, if all this is true (I hope I'm wrong somewhere), then what or who was that Tall Demon. Also, if the cultists were following the texts of how the Pain Elemental came to feed, wouldn't they realize that by somehow performing a ritual and summoning him into this world, they themselves would be turned to trees to be fed off of?

Chzo placed Cabadath's soul into the tree to ensure that his body would live forever, turning Cabadath into an unwilling liche. After a thousand years of torment, Cabadath has lost every shred of his humanity - he has become the Tall Man, a soulless and demented slave to Chzo. His origins in our universe allow him to act as an avatar to Chzo in dealings with the Scientific Realm. Chzo can only observe our universe, not manifest in it physically; he could only drag Cabadath into his realm because Cabadath himself opened the gateway. The Tall Man now pursues Chzo's interests in our universe on Chzo's behalf.
Chzo doesn't do the tree thing often; he's only done it once in history. He only needs one avatar. Any other captive will simply be tortured slowly to death.

Now just to clarify:
1. Cabadath lost his humanity and became a soulless slave to Chzo during his thousand years as a tree?
2. I know I've read on an earlier page someone else asked this question: At what point did Cabadath break free from the tree and become the freakish Tall Man?
3. The 287 referenced the day John Defoe was (supposed to be killed, off by a month) and also the day Cabadath summoned the Pain Elemental?
4. Since Cabadath was no longer contained within the tree at the time Trilby was exploring the Hotel, was there no direct link anymore between the Idol and either the Tall Man or Pain Elemental?
5. Cabadath, a.k.a. the Tall Man allowed the guy who made the harpsicord to live. Was the Tall Man simply following orders or did he actually retain a hint of humanity when he heard the man's pleads to live?

2. He never did. His soul is still contained within the wood of the tree and everything made from it. Whenever someone torments with the wood, he experiences immense pain. And can therefore relish sticking his pole through the head of whoever it was once the 28th of July rolls around.
3. I'm not sure myself but 28/7 is definitely the day the border between the Ethereal Realm and the Realm of Technology weakens, so Chzo can have greater influence in our world. Therefore, it (probably retroactively) is the day all the crazy shiznit goes down involving John DeFoe and Cabadath. It would make sense to cast a demon-summoning spell on the day most likely for the demon to traverse worlds.
4. See 2, his soul was still in the wood of the tree and therefore the idol.
5. Notice in the Books of Chzo how everytime the Tall Man massacres someone, they "know the name of the King". Frehorn already did, so there was no need to kill him. And he probably saw the advantage in having followers.
Be satisfied with these pathetic answers!

Hardly. As is made more clear in the special edition, there are three kinds or 'flavours' of pain Chzo can consume - pain of the Body, Mind and Soul, the three Blessed Agonies. Pain of the Soul is to be forcibly parted with something you love. By being forced to kill his own lover, Frehorn suffered this agony, and no further retribution was required.
And of course, Frehorn went on to found the Order of Blessed Agonies, so perhaps the Tall Man could see his future usefulness.

Excuse me, but didn't Frehorn kill a man? Please, someone tell me this isn't what I'm thinking it is.
