Now, my fellow players who finished Trilby's Notes, I got a question which I couldn't answer on my own: If Trilbs was so important for the tall guy and his lackeys (he was the Guide), then why does the tall guy attempt to kill him in Siobhan's room?

Was he really trying to kill him? I.e. does he kill him if you wait too long? Never waited to see.

If he never does kill Trilby, then he might just have been fucking with him to get him to knock out Siobhan for some reason.

The perverted f*ck I am, I love checking out gory death scenes in adventure games, so I rubbed my hands in glee while the guy was kneeling above Trilby.

It's true you have a lot of time to act, but if you wait about 10 seconds, he introduces you to a heart-breaking experience.

I'm playing 5DAS again right now, just for kicks. Couldn't help but notice that Matthew's birthday is the 28th of June, not July. The diaries of Sir Roderick and Matthew also indicate that John DeFoe was killed with the idol on the 28th of June, not July as it should be to maintain continuity in Trilby's Notes... Or am I missing something here?

It might be possible that the Y-man was just fucking tired. If you check the big dialogue on day one in 5DAS, for example, you'll see that Jim says the following: 'A friend of mine used to say a crazy hermit lived there... ...who killed people and ate them alive.'

I haven't spotted this until I was supposed to translate it.
EDIT: Or maybe we're all stupid, dumb-assed cuntrunts who failed to see something very obvious. wink.gif

Yeah, he kills him. I actually died the first time because I wasn't expecting a sudden death. I don't know why I wasn't expecting it. I should have learned from previous games.

I can not beat the last puzzle.

I've exhausted every possibility

ask about Lenkman about Defoe, Manor, Cult, Ritual, Tall Man etc.

talk to Siobhan

Kick Tall man, Lenkman

Grab Idol

Die, Die, Die, Die

Help please?

WAIT UNTIL LENKMANN WALKS COMPLETELY ROUND THE STUMP. TIRE TRILBY OUT WITH USELESS COMMANDS UNTIL THE TALL MAN APPROACHES. THEN DIE.

The reason you hadn't expected that to happen might be because TN is a flashback game, narrated by Trilby himself.

No, it wasn't.

Although I've gotta say I love the fact that the game is told that way. I liked it when Sands of Time did it, and I like it now. It's fresh even though it's not that original.

Anyway, any ideas why this happens? I know it's usually the smartarse's job to nitpick at unimportant things, but I think this is pretty important.

The ending at the very end of the game, with the tall man and lenkmann before the cult leaders, shows that what they really wanted was Trilby's blood.

But most likely it's just a "scary game thing" like the flashes of the dead crewmembers walking in 7DAS. The explanation is probably that Trilby was hallucinating and could have died from any number of scientifically-explainable reasons that were unrelated to his perceptions.

One. Lenkmann clearly states Trilby has to be alive when the tall guy comes. That's why the tall guy gets pissed off at Lenkmann when you 'die'.

Two. I don't think those were hallucinations in 7DAS, it might've been John DeFoe trying out the different bodies (as you later hear William Taylor saying that none of them he found strong enough, so he sewed them into one). Of course, I may be wrong here.

Do it this way:

Type "ask lenkmann about defoe" and press enter.

Then press F3 and press enter.

Wash, rinse and repeat. Press enter to skip the dialogue, you can tire Trilby out really fast this way. Then when you can't do or say anything else, type "die".

Voila.

For chrissake, people, was that puzzle really that hard???

I managed to do it the 1st time, then again, I might've been exceptionally intuitive as I usually am... wink.gif

The reason I can't understand why it was so hard for some of you is because it's a red hot f*cking hint Lenkmann gives: '...people like yourself die only on their own terms...'

I found it difficult because I didn't do it properly the first time around, then loaded it where I'd saved about half way through the ritual. I don't think the game remembered I'd already typed loads of stuff before I saved, and I didn't have enough time from where I'd saved onwards to tire myself out enough.

I got frustrated until I worked out the spamming technique I posted above.

We don't know that Lenkmann was telling the truth; it is a pain cult, maybe that was Lenkmann's ultimate honor or something.

I was talking about TN with regard to hallucinations. I believe in the special edition of 7DAS, or maybe in a forum post somewhere when he released it, Yahtzee states that he had no explanation for one of the appearances and it was just to create a horrific mood, but it's possible I'm just making that up (don't have the special edition around to check).
