Yeah, interesting how creative you can get when you are generally pissed off. It was something along the lines of "Matthew didn't queue twice when brains were being dealt out". Well, it sounds funnier in Hungarian.

You don't have to any programming when translating AGS games, by the way. Although we're talking point & click games now, I guess a game like TN would be more difficult.

I think it's hard to translate text adventures to Hungarian because it's not sounds good, like: USE KEY ON LOCK

It sounds like: HASZNÁLNI KULCSOT AJTÓN. But these things can be fixed.

I'd like to know how is the portuguese translation going. They started it about 3-4 months ago and had never said a word about it.

The main problem is that you'd have to give every item about 10 synonyms, plus attach the suffixes to every synonym (since if you want quality work, you'd have to make the suffixes as well, so it has a syntax that is not too ridiculous and the game will understand what the player wants better), also, you'd have to rewrite the parser completely, I think.

But it's harder than translating a graphical game, because in text adventures the only information you get is the text and in a graphical adventure there is graphic too biggrin.gif , so in a text game the subtitle is a little bit more important.

Yes, that is why translations need extensive testing when incorporated into the game, something which the average translator tends to neglect. *pats self on shoulder smugly*
(Well, I've done that, at least.)

Anyway, Yahtzee, if you still look into this topic every now and then: would it be possible for me to have the privilege of translating 1213 bestowed upon (now that there's demand from at least one person smile.gif )? Or is there a technical obstacle, such as a missing source file, or the cannot-be-arsed-to-screw-around factor?

Well...as far as I know, from within the AGS Editor you can create simple text files for translating.

Like this...that's an example translation source: http://www.schmackha.../files/test.txt

After translating, Yahtzee can import it again. It isn't that much work. Just a few clicks...so that isn't the problem, I think.

I think the problem might be that he doesn't really give a shit anymore, he's probably busy with other stuff.

EDIT: The translation process can get tricky, even though we're talking one .txt file here. For instance: invisible breaks in the line. Moreover, when I got the 5das translation stuff, there was a point where someone edited into it by accident, and it garbled up the whole stuff and we were both stupified for days until I came across the bugger.

I wouldn't say since Yahtzee hasn't replied yet that he doesn't give a shit as he did not post anything since June 4, chances are he's simply busy working on something, dealing with the issues caused when some people at Gridwerx splitted to create Aberrant Entertainment or maybe he's just slacking off. Or maybe he just hates us since Lachie's thread. smile.gif
