So, I caved and bought the CD that I mentioned last month. I saw the horn group again and decided to make the purchase. However, I'd like to mention that the price dropped to $10.00. Also, I'd like to claim personal responsibility for the price drop as it is quite clearly in direct response to my comments. Thanks, guys, you did the right thing.

So, what's up with those five minute long commercials for that new movie Ultraviolet that they've been playing? The commercial is so long! It's like a full length preview you'd see at the theatre. How can they afford these epic commercials?

I was confused when I first saw the commercial because I was fairly convinced that I had slipped into an alternate universe where Æon Flux came out two months later and starred Mila Jovovich instead of Charlize Theron. ACtually, I'm still kind of convinced of this.

That being said, I think it's a great idea to have a midriff-exposing sexpot do kung fu on an endless army of faceless enemies. Also, that part where she lands impossibly in a quasi-split while holding a katana blade dangerously tucked behind her and then looks up slowly towards the camera is brilliant. How'd they think of that?

Some day I hope to work for Hollywood Industries so I can have great ideas like that!

This entry is dedicated to Jørgen who is afraid to register but wanted an update to the site. Normally I update once a month but thanks to Jørgen I bumped it up to once every 28 days.

Its absolutely brilliant! At first I wasn’t going to go see it, but after being reminded every ten minutes how hot Milla Jovovich is, I have decided to waste $7 on the movie, as well as $3.50 for some sour patch kids. Maybe I'll even dish out $2.75 for a large pop.

...maybe.

Well I always thought it is good to wait for price reductions, I like the point of criticising that can speed up the process.

I am unclear if you have seen the movie yet but what are the features of the cinemas over there?

I mean for the available seating in the centre for viewing in a straight angle, the size of the screen and the quality of the picture and sound.

No, I haven't seen it yet. I will wait until it's available to be rented and then wait until someone rents it and brings it to my apartment.

The cinemas "over here" are pretty nice. Stadium seating, Dolby 75.1 sound (or whatever). There's quite a few all digital projection places in New York City.

Where are you?

So sorry I rather not state here in public

Well that sounds good.
I went every week until the local cinema just turned awful some years ago when they brought in the new projectors which were Sanyo make after asking. I got refunded though on the last occasions after seeing flickering, dark bumps around the picture which hurts my eyes, and accidental cropping and stretching from the beginning, which I had to complain to set right on most successful occasions.

The old projector had none of these problems and was fantastic compared to that for crystal clear non-bumpy pictures. I stopped going ever since after loosing enjoyment over the picture problems, but the next one is a long way away. Some of the good things are, getting a seat at the back centre was not much of a problem at the time and the sound was good in effects and detail.

I don't suppose you have these kinds of problems at your cinemas?

Actually, cinemas here in Germany have the same problem. Hmm, no wait, that's a little bit too generalizing, so let's just say that the local cinema's featuring an awful quality, although it's pretty new. I guess that's one of the reasons why I'm not going to the movies that often. Another one would be that I'm a greedy bastard.

I go to the same movie theater I went to when I was little. It hasn’t been updated since 1983. It still has the same three arcade games in the lobby: NeoGeo, Centipede and Double Dragon or something.

The visual and sound quality is definitely lacking, but I go for sentimental reasons - lost of good memories there - like the time I watched Jurassic Park and liked it so much that I went out and bought a ticket for the very next showing. Or the time I saw Land Before Time, cried my eyes out, then hid in the theater til the next showing started so I could cry some more. And then there’s the time me, my little brother and four of my cousins went to the grocery store and stocked up on all sorts of pop, Doritos and candy, and ‘snuck’ it all in the theater under gigantic winter coats in the middle of July.

Ah yes, those were good times.

I like flat pictures, another thing to this is the aspect ratio, just wondering how 16:9 can be called widescreen as squared from 4:3 but with bits cut out at the top and bottom; Shouldn't the ratio be similar in size to 4:3 but to a larger picture with no bits cut out at the top and bottom?

I work in a town where a multiplex cinema was only built last year. Until then, it was a rather shabby ancient cinema with painfully uncomfortable seats, allergy-inducing amount of dust and projector which tended to break the tape or lose the sound. Also the repertorie was rather limited.

So I was overjoyed when the built the muliplex. Finally I would be able to see all the new hot releasses, I thought. And I was overjoyed right until the film that I was most waiting for was shown everywhere else in my country SAVE the said multiplex in my town.

Anyway, congratulations on talking sense to some people. Is the CD as nice as the live performance?

Sorry to backtrack to earlier topics, but like Chefelf I want to rant about UNLTRAVIOLET as a concept. She's a supersoldier, yeah? She fights large bodyarmoured guys with guns and heavy equipment? She runs around with a sword and half a shirt? I don't get it. If she's the epitome of fighting prowess, an elite soldier, why doesn't she look like the soldiers she's fighting? Shouldn't they at least be not as good, but also be waify models with swords? Or shouldn't she be some larger, heavier body-armoured man with loads of equipment? And if swords are so awesome, why do the regular soldiers carry guns? How can she be so different in concept and still be used for the same job?

If she's a superhero, fine. If she has magical powers, then yeah, whatever. Otherwise it's the same complaint I had with DARK ANGEL: why am I asked to believe that an elite fighter will weigh less and be less equipped than the regular fighters?

Gaaaaahhhh. For this sort of concept I still prefer Robocop.

Hmm... the right use of weight and equipment can make all the difference... trust me, a friend of mine is only 1,60m tall and you'd think that you could easily throw her around the room.

Which is wrong, by the way.

Well, I think some sor tof magiv must be employed because there's that shot in the commercial where someone tries to punch her and she dissolves into a million particles to avoid the punch.

That's a pretty neat trick.

Hey, nobody wants to see big brutes like Arnold and Dolph shooting stuff up with gigantic guns anymore. Those days are over. People want to see gorgeous half dressed women twirl swords around and do back flips. And maybe if we’re all lucky, the rest of the story will actually be intelligent and thought provoking. But if not, at least we can fall back on the gorgeous half dressed women.

Why are you complaining about half naked Milla Jovovich?

Yeah, my sentiments exactly. Fifth Element already showed that it wasn't such a bad idea.
