This has probably been covered, but I just noticed it today upon watching my brand new Laserdisc DVD copies, the opening of ROTJ has C3PO and R2D2 walking towards Jabba's palace when Threepio remarks that "Poor Lando Calrissean and Chewbacca never returned from this place." Yet later on, Leia shows up with Chewbacca in tow. What gives?

You can't tell 3PO too much. That's why Artoo was given the DS plans originally. And the lightsaber this time around.

That makes me wonder---when has C3PO "revealed too much" to like bad guys or made a situation turn because he "knew too much?" I'm just wondering since when did people consider him so untrustworthy.

C3PO by all means is actually trustworthy and discrete. Take for example when the Imperials attack, C3P0 remarks to R2: "There'll be no escape for the princess this time." So, he knows who she is, etc.

And when Luke asks who she is, he replies, "I think she was a passenger on our last voyage. A person of some importance, sir--I believe..."

He's programmed not reveal vital information. Why wouldn't he be the same any other time. This is an unfortunate, unwarranted and undeserved characteristic that's been attached to him.

And then Lucas' takes even further in ROTJ and the PT's.

Maybe he gets picked on because he tries too hard?

I know. It's not fair. Happens.

Chewbacca got caught first, Lando filled out a job application at the door so they think his Colt 45 guzzling ass is legit. Therefore, Chewbacca wore the metal bikini first and sat on Jabba's gut. The resulting footage gave ROTJ a PG-13 rating which would have cost him a lot of cash at the box office, so he redid the scene.

Good point though, the first of many mistakes of PT-like proportions.

Wouldn't it have been kick-ass if Chewie was off somewhere with the Falcon and when Luke gives the signal and starts slashing through the guards, Chewie comes blazing in and they jump on board to escape?

Seriously, wouldn't it have been highly suspicious for the droids AND Chewbacca to show up on the same day or the next morning, and THEN Luke shows up.

I just try to imagine a more "believable" rescue. A more action/scifi adventurey rescue

Yeah - that's pretty bad, actually. Strangely, I never even noticed it before until now.

Odd how something got by, and in addition, a lot of people missed it all these years. Since Threepio has no moving mouth, the post production sound folk added/deleted lines all the time with ease so its not like they didn't have an option to correct an error that just occurs on the audio. With all the varied mixes needed to make up the final print of the film, it got by all those times.

They didn't tell threepio, ok? Same as in SW. No plot hole.

Gonk droids can be tortured to talk, and we see 3PO's willingness to surrender a time or two. It was just exposition to tell the kiddies: Remember Chewie and maybe Lando? Keep an eye open for them. Your daddy will nudge you when Lando raises his mask.

That's poor exposition. Maybe that was about the time Lucas started developing his dementia and loss of Star Wars memory which became so overwhelmingly apparent 15 years later when the PT created even more plot holes.

incon-sith-stancy number 1: The emporer's face. Did he get additional lightnining bolts to his face between ep III and V? And even more between ep V and IV? Maybe space travel agitates his wringkles.

I used to laugh at 3po. He was mildly funny - well, he was such a pussy so it was really difficult not to find him at least a little funny. But in the OT the humor was so much more subtle. I have chosen to block out most of the r2/3po scenes from the PT. I have actually blocked out most of the PT.

crying.gif but no matter how hard I try - I cant seem to forget about jar jar binks...

which reminds me - you guys ever see that skit on MadTV where they spoof a GL interview? laugh.gif Kills me every time.
