Hatred of the Past was originaly ment to be a prequal to this story, hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Prologue: 5 years earlier…

A grim look crossed Borenko’s face as he stared into the forest. This was it, this is what he had been fighting for since day one, where he failed before, but this time he will succeed.

Beyond the darkness of the threes there was an army, an army 15,000 strong, the world’s coalition. Borenko had been waiting for this for a long time, all his energy was put into this, all his time was put into this. Borenko’s officers stood behind him, loyal beyond belief, if he told them to shoot themselves, they’d do it without hesitation.

Borenko always went first into every fight and got out last in every battle, he never surrendered, not even when things were hopeless, that state of mind cost him his right leg, right arm and right eye which he lost due to a mine. Borenko was given the best medical treatment of modern times, giving him mechanical parts to replace the old, including a state of the art artificial eye.

Borenko always wore his combat uniform, even when going to sleep and only took it off to shower, while wearing his uniform he always wore a long black glove to cover-up his arm and an eye patch to cover up his eye. He has a thick long moustache and long hair that he always lets loose, all in all a very dark character, but with an image that bleeds respect. Every negotiation Borenko ever had with an enemy resulted in either Borenko winning or walking away in which case he won his enemy on the battlefield. All was great until the UN realised how much of a threat Borenko was, so they sent 15,000 men to combat his 2,500.

Borenko has fought against harder odds but this time they had something he could not match against, something that will be his downfall. That’s at least what Borenko thought, he knew they wouldn’t send such few men to combat him unless they had a good plan and some kind of secret weapon. He was going to investigate, him and 2 of his finest men were going to do a recognisance mission, to give them an idea of what their up against and wether they have a chance or not at defeating it.

“Alright, Mishka, Damoslav, let’s go!”

Off they went, into the unknown…

Hope you guys like this... please tell me that someone actualy reads this story... please...

Part One: Present Day, 2021…

Mike looked over the edge, tens of scurrying people running around trying to mind their own businesses. Mike was in one way or another, a bum. The only difference between him and others bums was that he has a home and a job. Mike is an assistant of the hotel manager who owns the hotel where Mikes lives.

Mikes job is to clean the hotel from top to bottom, take the receptionists desk when his boss Donald needs to go do a job or go get something and to kill the rats, there are a lot of rats in the hotel. In exchange for working for him, Donald lets Mike live in one of the not so great apartments. Mikes saw it as a good exchange because he was homeless at the time.

Mike stood there on the ledge, wondering wether or not his life will get better, the thoughts raced through his head until he heard Donald shouting for him to come into the Lobby.

Mike went down the emergency ladder and into the side door which led to a door under the stairs, finally Mike got to the lobby.

“Do you have any idea how many times I called you!?” Donald asked.
“More then twelve?”
“Don’t be a smart ass with me! Were you on the roof again?”
“Yeah”
“I told you not to go up; you can’t hear me when you’re up there”
“You say it like it’s a bad thing”
“Don’t start, I got to go out for a while, I need you too look after the desk while I’m gone”

Mike looked around, other then Donald, him and the rats, this place is always empty.

“Are you expecting rush hour soon?” Mike chuckled.
“Don’t start, I got to go” Donald frowned.

Donald put on his coat and walked out into the street. Mike sat in the Receptionists chair and waited for Donald to come back. Mike wondered what was in the desk; he had been there many times but not once dared to look in the draws. Mike opened one of the draws and saw a sawn-off shotgun and some ammo. Mike slowly closed the drawn and pretended he didn’t see a thing.

After a while a man in a black coat and bowler hat came into the hotel, it was a man registered as James Vine, lives in room 6. James walked over and nodded at Mike, Mike just saw a part of his face; he had an eye-patch and a scared cheek, not someone you’d like to fight with probably. James walked up the stairs to his room. Mike got a bell from a nearby shelf and decided to go to sleep; he closed his eyes and drifted of instantly.

Mike dreamt of his childhood, something he had nearly forgotten about. A ringing entered his head until he opened his eyes and saw Donald looking at him.

“Sometimes I wonder wether I should employ you at all” Donald joked.
“Sometimes I wonder too” Mike replied.
“You can go now, it’s nearly 10 O’clock, and you slept through the entire day”
“It’s the energy of this place, sometimes it overpowers me”

They both laughed.

“Ill go now, by the way, what did you have to do which was so important?”
Donald face became grim.
“Never you mind, just stay in your apartment, ok?”
Mike was a bit confused, Donald was never like this.
“Alright, Ill see you later”

Mike went up the stairs and to his apartment, he opened the door and went, then locked the door and closed all his windows, Mike was slightly paranoid but it was reasonable paranoia because Mike lives in the worst part of the city. He quickly turned off the light and went to bed, since he works at random times during the day he usually sleeps with his close on, this was no exception. He drifted to sleep almost instantly.

A loud crash of metal littered the airways. Mike woke up with it banging in his ears; the sound soon stopped but was followed by gun shots. Mike quickly got up and looked out of bedroom window, but it only out looked into an alley before, one of the reasons Mike goes onto the roof. The gunshots heard like they were getting closer and closer to the hotel, Mike ran out of his apartment and was about to go down the stairs to the receptionists desk when he saw several armed men walk into the lobby carrying shotguns, they pulled Donald from the receptionist desk and aimed the shotguns at him.

“Your one of them!” shouted the man closest to Donald.
“No, I’m not, I swear” coward Donald.
“Strip him!” ordered the man.

The other men took off Donald’s shirt revealing a tattoo on the upper left part of his back; the tattoo was of a triangle with the top bit missing and a line down the middle. The man in charge grinned.

“Kill him!” he ordered.

The other men aimed their shotguns at Donald and opened fire, killing him instantly and taking off a part of his skull and torso. The men walked out of the hotel and then all was quiet. Mike slowly went down the stairs and walked to Donald’s corpse. Donald was dead, no doubt about it, Mike didn’t know how to feel; he just saw a person die.

Mike remembered the Sawn-off and went over to the desk. He opened the draw and took the gun out along with the two extra buck shots. Should he follow the men, Mike wondered. The shooting outside began again and Mike decided to see what was going on, he went through the side door and into the alley, were he would climb the emergency ladder to the rooftops. He began climbing and then the ladder he was holding too broke off, sending Mike to land on his back. Mike got rigidly got up and realised someone was coming into the Alley, one of the men.

Mike hid behind some trash cans and waited for him to go away, but he didn’t, he must have heard the noise of the ladder braking because he was searching around. Mike opened the Sawn-off and put one buckshot in, the man stepped closer and closer to Mike. Mike over the trashcans at the man who was no less then 5 metres away, the man had turned around when a cat jumped out from behind the dumpster, he looked around again and walked off. Mike sighed with relief.

Part Two: 2016…

Borenko, Mishka and Damoslav snuck through the forest until they got to the edge. A large road separated the forest they were in and the forest in which their enemies were. Borenko turned to Mishka and Damoslav.

“The plan is too scout up ahead to see what they have to use against us, remember not to shoot, we don’t want to let them know we‘re here, after we find out what we can, we will come back to the base and get petrol cans, we will then return and light their part of the forest and cause mass panic and possible casualties, we will not engage the enemy, we will only fire if fired upon and then retreat as far as we can, understood?” Borenko said with a stern look. Mishka and Damoslav nodded.

Borenko got out his binoculars and searched the opposite forest and then the road to make sure there aren’t any hidden enemies.

“Ill got first” Borenko said.

Borenko got on his stomach and started crawling, the road wasn’t lit, he finally got across the road and only 15 metres away from the opposite forest. He signalled the other to come over. While they were coming over, Borenko aimed his AK at the forest, to make sure no one catches them by surprise. Once Mishka and Damoslav got over, Borenko turned to them and said “Stay here”, he handed the, a bag, Damoslav opened it and it was full of Anti-Personnel mines ranging from 20th century Bouncing Betties to New Model Claymore mines.

“I want you two to scatter these mines all across this side of the road, make sure they can be seen by the naked eye, then I want you too put this on the area which its safe to walk” Borenko handed Mishka a white flag.

“Understood” they both said.

Borenko crouched and slowly went into the forest. Nothing was in the forest, no traps, no troops, nothing. This worried Borenko because it either meant that his war intelligence was either wrong, or that they are planning something. Either possibility meant that this side would sustain heavy casualties, hopefully, the mines would get some of them or the very least, slow them down in order for Borenko to stage an ambush. The question was, what did they have that they’d be so reckless like this? The question raced through Borenko’s mind again and again until he saw the side of the enemies base. This was it, the Base didn’t look that heavily guarded, only about 5 troops patrolling along the walls. Perhaps there are more bases? Though Borenko. This was it, time to put his plan into action.
