QUOTE (Giff @ May 21 2006, 02:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
"See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first."

So even though in our new OT dvd we will be getting a reconstructed crawl, we STILL HAVE TO SEE IT ON THE DVD COVER?!?!

WTF?

I am not buying these things. Any half-assed DVD doesnt deserve my money. Especially considering the DVD's themselves wont have any color correction and wont be anamorphic.

Only considered bonus material A New Hope is. Buy fart version to get it you must.

We'll get a large group together raid a store and steal all of them and tie up the cashiers.

Good plan.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned one of the most obvious oddities. One of the reasons Lucas butchered the films was that he wanted continuity with his silly little prequels. Now, the strange thing in relation to the new covers is that the silly little prequels have traditional hand-drawn poster art. So if Lucas really wanted continuity all the way, then he should have done the same with the original trilogy.

But perhaps it's really our fault for not being specific enough in our request to Lucasfilm.

"Oh yeah... could you also restore the film and clean the picture before you transfer it onto DVD? And, sorry - almost forgot - could you use the classic posters for the DVD covers? Thanks."

Compare the Revenge of the Jedi poster with the new Annie helmet and there's a clear sense of inferiority. All a matter of what you're proud of, I suppose.

I'm not worried. Somewhere among TFN's denizens are hard-liners like ourselves, who naturally won't be interested in the "bonus disc" and would quickly rid themselves of it. I'm hopeful enough of them will turn to ebay so that we can all get our original Star Wars film without Lucas seeing additional profit.

That's a good idea - certainly preferable to Barend's suggestion of mugging someone who bought it and taking it for free.

My problem with that idea is that Barend will be mugging a fellow fan of the original untainted trilogy. What he should do instead is mug one of those dickheads who love all the new crap and steal the money from them to buy these new DVDs. That way, everybody wins ... with the possible exception of those dickheads, but hey, their money will be going into the pockets of their beloved Lucas so they'll probably be fine too.

Also, it means Barend can beat up a Lucas groupie.

GOD! I just can't wait anymore. I need to FINALLY see the O-OT in widescreen NOW!

I can't wait 2 more months.

I can finally ditch the awful PT and fucked-up SEs, keep the 2004 DVD bonus disc, and replace the 2004 DVDs with the O-OT in the 2004 boxset (which is still in good shape).

I will either sell or allow the 2004 DVDs to collect dust.

I wish we could have gotten a sturdier box like the Indiana Jones one, but whatever.

There's no need to wait, dude. Just get one of the many fan captures that are out there. There's a million different versions available captured from the laserdiscs, etc.

Check out http://www.originaltrilogy.com for more informaiton.

What's really sick is that Lucas has got us either way... If we all go out and buy the new DVDs, then he gets money= he wins. If we don't buy them, then he says "see the remastered is so good that no-one wanted the original" = he wins. Tricksy.
"The problem is, you're not a kangaroo... that's a bear... and he's in your pants."
"Maybe artists shouldn't talk about their art."
"Well kids, I guess your father isn't a hermaphrodite."
"Izzy! enough with the rabid smootching!!"

Have you noticed that they basically stole the designs from existing SW posters?

I'm on your side, and I mean no offense by this. But how did they 'steal' the covers? I mean... it is theirs to begin with. =/

I actually think those covers look nice...

Judging by the Box Art for ANH, it looks like Tarkin doesn't survive/ Thanks for spoiling it for me George......

Looking at the ESB Art, the Snowspeeders could have just pitched upward and gone into space, avoiding the Imperials when the rest of the Rebels were evacuated.

No big observations on ROTJ. ESB Han looks like Han circa ANH, without the blue/black jacket.

Is the Ewok 'war sucks because I lost my best pal/and or girlfriend digitally remastered?

Han can shot first all he wants, because Greedo appears in the Hanger scene with Jabba, or is that not included, making things right again?

$30 USD a disk is an ultimate F U from GL, and the non inclusion of any bonus material like Harrison Ford/Mark Hammill commentary, and maybe another track with Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker doesn't warrent that price.
