Police say wife confessed to killing, saying she was pushed over the edge


KARACHI, Pakistan - A Pakistani woman beheaded her husband, chopped up his body and dumped the dismembered parts in a sewerage drain after he announced plans to take a fourth wife, police said on Wednesday.

Police said Majeeda Khatoon killed her husband, a well-off building contractor, while he was asleep, and cut his body into seven pieces with the help of two male relatives in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, a township on the outskirts of the southern city of Karachi.

“When we questioned her, after the deceased’s brother came to us for help, she confessed to the crime,” police official Nazar Mohammad Mangrio told Reuters.

Khatoon, 45, was arrested late last week and has been remanded in custody while the police frame charges against her.

Khatoon said her 55-year-old husband had taken other wives and flaunted his infidelity, but she was pushed over the edge when he announced plans to take a fourth wife, according to the police officer.

Islam permits men to take up to four wives, and while polygamy is not the norm in Pakistan, it is not rare either.

Bloody news media sensationalism... she cut him into pieces, and yes the head happened to be one of those pieces, but they labled this dismemberment a beaheading just to get our attention!!!

Yes, I am not sure about this culture but I read similar for arranged marriages, they kill in honour if the daughter refuses to marry someone of the parent's choice. From what I read in a particular story, they cut up the daughter, put her remains in newspaper wrappings to hide in the chimney as an attempt to hide the smell.

Why would you hide a corpse in the chimney? Then you're going to have corpse smell and smoke and it'll just be obvious where it's coming from.

Exactly, which is the very reason why the neighbours became suspicous and the police did a raid leading to the arrest.

When the daughter went missing, her boyfriend contacted the police, her parents did not show any concern and said she might have ran off with someone else like any young girl these days. After they were caught, they said by hiding the remains in the chimney, it might disguise the smell. Obviously they were wrong. "The purpose was that she wanted to get married to someone else and rejected an arranged marriage." The parents were jailed for life for honorable killing.

I do not know the Pakistani law but as for saying that it is unlikely for a man to have four wives: "In this case could a lady have four husbands?"

Of course not. Having 4 wives is a religious tradition, and we all know that modern religions are built on sexism.

I do not think it is right for one gender to be entitled to break or alter commitments for traditional or religious values that only benefits one person. Maybe she could have voiced her concerns before getting married, unless that was an arranged marriage.

she was the third wife... it was a re-arranged wedding.

I am wondering, do these wives have some kind of life insurance?
So if they get killed the husband gets money, well already in some cases I have seen them giving most of their money and property to the hudbands and sons.
