Why do you think Lucas won't release the O-OT, in your opinion?

Everyone knows in their hearts that the O-OT is better than the prequels and special editions, and Lucas most likely realizes this, and is bitter because others were equally if not more responsible than him for the OT's greatness.

He had to have complete control over the prequels and we all know how they turned out!

That's why I feel he won't release the O-OT- because he is bitter that it came out so much better than he wanted it to be, from people who contributed more to its success.

And I'm not even talking about all his lies and hypocrisy.

There's certainly some truth to this theory. I think it's a simple ego defense mechanism, deep down he must understand that he sucks. I think it's tough for a director of his standing to realize that he simply isn't good where it matters anymore. We don't get to see the OOT because of a grossly bloated neck, sorry, I meant ego...

I wonder if Spielberg or any of his other (much more skilled) director buddies at least hinted to him that his recent work is really horrible and weak? "Uhm George, about this Midichlorian thing..."

The way it looks to me is that Lucas is a greedy bastard. With the original films he released, especially ANH, Lucas gave profit points in exchange for film-maker friends' profit points in their films. Their films failed. His didn't. The original version, they continue to get points, and not just them, but so does Fox. When Lucas crapped on these films with his CGI, they essentially became different films, different releases, and therefore, Lucas was not obligated to pay them any profit points. I'm not of his cut with Fox, but at this point, I'm sure Lucas had a lot more say and gets a better percentage.

So, it is no wonder that Lucas considers them to be his "definitive" Star Wars film.

Big, fat, bloated, greedy bastard. Not entirely. I do think he's lost it a little in regards to the PT.

the OOT is the work of several people working together, and it the most loved of the 4 trilogies (OOT, OT:SE97, OT:SE04, PT).

but lucas only likes the idea of people giving him sole-Kudos.

He won't have people worshiping things he didn't have 100% control over. Deep down he knows he must rely on people to make a superior product; OOT, indiana Jones, etc. His collaborative works are his best...

but he just don't like to swing that way.

Yes he has. As jariten said, I believe this thread has been rendered obsolete by Lucasfilm announcing the release of the O-OT.
