I'm so surprised no one has mentioned Dark Angel yet.
Jessica Alba was awesome in that role.

Joan of Arcadia was cut way to soon.

And this may have been a teen drama but
Life As We Know It was pretty good.
I could even handle Kelly Osbourne as an actress.

and some other dramas

Titans and Reunion

That show kinda sucked. They started airing it a few months ago, I think on FX or something. I sat through 2 episodes, and other than staring at JA's freakishly voluptuous lips, there was no entertainment value to be had. I thought it was really boring, and usually I'm pretty easily entertained - especially when there's a hot chick involved.

Firefly was definetely one. This is just another example of a network that screwed Joss Whedon. I did see Brisco County, Jr., out on DVD at a Target so you might want to be on the lookout. Angel was another one of Joss Whedon's shows that should have gone on at least another season. It was geared to and then "theWB" (no surprise it's name had to change) wanted more crap reality TV shows on and cancelled that one. Batman Beyond was cut way too short after only two years of animation and yeah, The Critic also was a favorite that was cut short.

Yeah, what happened to the WB? And why? I've been wondering about that.

The WB fell into the trap that all the other networks are doing now. REALITY TELEVISION!!! For one thing, the other networks can get away with reality crap because they are established networks with good quality established shows, or they have made their money on past shows; i.e., NBC with Friends, Cosby Show, etc. The WB started out strong because it offered something far different and that were shows based on the angst of teenage/young adult life. So even with Buffy, Angel, and Smallville, you had shows that were comic book oriented but still focused on the WB mantra. Then, the reality TV show plague came along and *poof*, there went the WB goodness. They threw out Buffy, Angel, and then they barely hung on to Smallville and the rest of the shows. They just lost badly. To show the desperation, they turned to another network who suffered the same fate and worse, UPN, and thus CW was born. If the WB had just remembered what made them so good in the first place and not turned to the crap that is reality TV, they would have been fine.

Yeah, didn’t they have dawsons creek? I don’t know for sure, I sure as hell didn’t watch it, but everybody else in my school did. What shows did UPN have? I think I remember Star Trek Voyager, but that was a long time ago.

oh Sailor Abbey,
If only you had stuck it out for a few more episodes,
possibly a sesaon you might have enjoyed Dark Angel....
But w/e i mainly liked it cuz JA was given the chance to be a 'real actor'
rather then some cheerleader chick in various teen movies.
As for the WB & UPN give it a chance some of the shows arent that bad

I dont know, but our (former??) WB local station and Ive also noticed this in other markets that I travel in as well,..they seem to bare a new logo,.something that looks like a "33",..I have no idea what that may represent. Im thinking WB sold their rights, or maybe they took on a new logo specifically for TV,.who knows.

anyone with more info, feel free to drop in on this.

..but its not just "reality television" shows. Youre forgetting about all the other garbage, like the medical dramas, the crime investigation shows, the so-called "family sitcoms" that run dangerously close, and sometimes even cross the line of what should be deemed as appropriate issues for the entire family to view.

If you find yourself at your local electronics store, browsing the video aisles wondering why so many shelves are lined with complete DVD seasons of TV shows from years long since past,.theres a reason for it..... IT SELLS QUITE WELL!,..as there are many folks out there who dont give a rats ass as to whats being shown on tv anymore these days.

I miss good wholesome programs like the Brady Bunch and the Wonder Years. (and maybe thats cause I had a crush on Danica McKellar! wub.gif )

Yeah, everyone knows now that Greg Brady got high on like every other episode,..but we didnt know it back in the day when we were at home watching it,..we just thought he was acting goofy cause Sherwood Schwartz told him to.

I dont watch tv enough to give them a chance. If I'm not learning something about science or history when I'm watching tv, then I'm probably watching one of the following shows:

Battlestar Galactica
The Simpson’s
X-Files
Xena
Buffy
Iron Chef (the Japanese one)

If one of those isn’t on, or there arent any good educational programming on NGC, DSC, SCI, or HST, I just go do something else. I really hate tv. Life is WAY to short to sit around and watch mediocre sitcoms and unreal-reality TV.

The wonder years was great, but the Brady Bunch? Come on. And whats so great about good old innocent TV. Boring! Sure that stuff is cool when you’re a little kid and you don’t know any better, but the moment you DO know any better, you begin to see the cheese for what it really is. I’m all for putting porno on prime time. If you don’t want to watch it, turn it off. If you don’t want your kids to watch it, be a parent and don’t let them.

Well, some of the crime dramas aren't bad, like CSI although I think they are getting crazy with all the other spin-offs. The first CSI is awesome but now there is CSI: Miami and then CSI:NY. What's next? CSI:LA, CSI:OKC, and CSI:D.C.??? I agree with you on the family shows though. Nothing like what they were when I was growing up. I wouldn't watch them and I sure won't let my kids watch them. The last good one really was the one John Ritter was doing when he died. I just think if you really look at things though, crappy television came along with reality TV because people lost their imaginations to create fiction and instead turned to crappy "reality". LIke "Fear Factor" and "Survivor". They're just so stupid. Anyways, I can tell I am ranting because it is way past my bedtime.

Freaks and Geeks was a fantastic show. Of course sinec it did not contain rich, beautiful, 26 year olds posing as 16 year olds it did not last past one season. But just a great show overall.
