Hello, fellow Chefelfers!

Blackwolf the Dragonmaster here --- a little tired, a little fatigued, perhaps, but still as punchy a Mage as I can be!

Well, St. Patrick's Day has come and gone; and now, your hunble Dragonmaster has Tartanweek in New York City, April 1st through 8th, to deal with! Cool!

Over the next 8 days, there will be live musical performances, fashion shows, exhibits, seminars, demonstrations and other delicious stuff --- the purpose of it all being to celebrate Scotland and her heritage. Centerpiece of all these activities is the Tartan Saturday Afternoon Parade, set for Saturday, April 8th, starting @ 2 pm. Among the featured Bagpipe Bands: the Clan Gordon Highlanders of Locust Valley & Lattingtown, Andy McDicken, Pipe Major; the Mount Kisco Scots, Jonathan Henken, Pipe Major; the Amityville American Legion Post 1015 Highlanders, Roland Davidson, Pipe Major; and, from York, PA, the Kiltie Band of York, Jim Britcher, Pipe Major.

This year's Tartanweek NYC celebrates three major milestones: the 50th Birthday of the American-Scottish Foundation; the 150th Birthday of the New York Caledonian Club; and the 250th Birthday of the St. Andrew's Society of the State of New York. Not only that, our Parade Grand Marshal will be 62-year-old Brigadier Melville Jameson, Producer and CEO of "the most decorated military display in the world," the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. (The Brigadier will be retiring, by the way, at the end of the current season, after 11 years as the Tattoo's top Scot.)

I'd tell ye more, fellow Chefelfers, but I think Tartan TV, starring Fiona Kennedy, can do more of that than I could. Anyway, must dash. As you know, I'm doing the Easter Parade when this is finally all over; then I can take a few days off and relax me Wizardly butt off! Yessssss!

As ever,

Master Blackwolf

Please keep us posted as to the events. I don't know if I can make it that far down South to see the festivities. wink.gif

Why don't they hold Tartan Week up in the "Highlands" of Inwood and the Cloisters?

They would, but I think the New York Caledonian Club already has its hands full, not just at the Medieval Festival, but also at our annual Clan MacDuff Scottish Games @ Old Westbury Gardens, which always takes place the 4th Saturday in August. (Oh yes, they have their own Official Pipe Band, too --- the New York Scottish Pipes, Drums and Dancers.)

Clan MacDuff is an amalgamation of some 15 former Scottish Clans from all over Greater New York; founded over 110 years ago, it is now the sole remaining Scottish Clan in the entire New York Metro Area. Many of its members all live in Long Island, where the Clan per se has its HQ; Andy McDicken's Clan Gordon Highlanders are their Pipe Band in Residence.

As for Tartan TV, starring Fiona Kennedy, you need only tune in to WLIW/21 every Saturday night, @ 7, if you wish news and info from Scotland itself.
