This topic is getting too lunatic, even for my taste, so I'll only say this:

QUOTE (Jejef Thgaron @ Mar 26 2006, 01:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
blablabla - make your own choice - blablabla

Not watching the PT is a choice. He's made it. Now don't come crying after him, for he's got his reasons and they're as good as yours.

QUOTE (Jejef Thgaron @ Mar 26 2006, 01:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I agree with the statement Casual Fan made: It is a matter of envy. Lucas made these movies, not us. We need to deal with that. I don't think it's entirely improbable there might be a few people on these forums that could make a better film... so where are these films? I'd like to see them. You can't use the argument that Lucas has far superior technology at his disposal... remember when he made the OT? He didn't have computers back then, so if you place the OT on a pedestal, then why is it so hard for any of us to do something impressive without the advancements in technology today? It reminds me of a question... "Why oppose war only when there's a war being fought?"

Discuss.

Making films results in having to spend a lot of money. It's like that nowadays and it was like that back in 1970, so that "where are these films" question is just irrelevant.

QUOTE
Nothing in Anakin's story trajectory makes introducing the character of Jar Jar Binks necessary.
Nothing in Anakin's story makes ANYTHING in TPM necessary. There is no logical emotional connection made between ANYTHING that happens to him as a kid and his later choices. NONE. This is in stark contrast to, say, the Batman character, whose entire life is shaped by seeing his parents murdered when he's a kid. NOWHERE do we see Anakin doing anything because of the circumstances of his upbringing. So why should we give a rat's ass about seeing him yelling "yippie!"? The film is a complete waste of time with respect to the character the whole fucking story is supposed to be about.

As for why so many here hate the prequels, Chefelf makes it clear that this kind of venting is welcome here. Other forums I go to have gushers bitterly complaining if anyone questions Georgie boy's genius.

Yah becaue he did something worthy of violence, like, umm.... making movies that you dont like? GREAT reason. are you one of the lunatics complaining about him raping your childhood. here's a tip, go get a life.

I’m going to punch him in the mouth because he’s a fucking jack ass and he ruined what used to be my favorite movies when I was young. You don’t like that it bothers me? Too fucking bad. George Lucas is a fraud and needs to be exposed for the fuck up his is and pay for his crimes against humanity and art. I’m hoping on a public disembowelment, but I’ll settle for making him sit through Britney Spears Live in Miami for 72hrs straight.

Well, don't let GL see those pictures of yours then, Miss Abbey. He might gladly continue producing bad movies just to get his arse kicked by you.

I know I would.

which sort of brings me back to my only point- the critisicms that people often level at the PT have always existed in SW, but something (called nostalga) tends to see those gaping flaws in the originals swept under the carpet.

you know it's more than that... it's not the errors in genral it's the inconsistancy and incompadibility.
but the feeling just isn't really there... KOTOR gives me that feeling, so there was no reason it shouldn't have been there in the PT.

come on man, we've had some good arguments over the years/months...
don't turn around and patrionizingly put it down to nostalgia. Nostalgia is what saves films from haven'iong to worry about dating... something captain perfect won't let happen.

Right. You understand subtlety, and you hate the one prequel epi... wait a minute... the ONE PREQUEL EPISODE THAT YOU WATCHED?!?!? W. T. F. ?!?!? I'll agree that it's a common trait to criticize an opponent's intelligence when arguing, but is it wrong? Let's see... you've only seen a third of the entire PT and you're agreeing with everyone else that the PT was terrible? That's like trying to convince everyone that neopolitan ice cream is horrible after only eating one of the flavors! That's incredible! Now, I understand! Thank you for clarifying why you hate the PT, civ. {Bashing head repeatedly against wall} Am I still common? Quick! Somebody respond to me with another autonomous view point!

of course... if i were to try neopolitan ice cream for the first time and found that brown was literally shit, i'm quite sure i'd avoid the the other two lest they be menstral blood and semen...

Some of my favorite reasons to hate the prequels -

1) Jar Jar Binks
2) No plausible reason for separating Anakin from his mother, as mentioned before, and also no plausible reason for it taking him ten years to get back to her.
3) No plausible reason(s) for the romance between Anakin and Padme other than Luke & Leia needing a mother.
4) A planet stupid enough to elect a 14 year old girl to be its supreme ruler, even if its only for a few years.
5) Anorexic combat droids that resemble Daffy Ducks
6) Way, way, WAY too much CGI.
7) Building up Darth Maul prior to the release of Episode I and then killing him with no further ado or importance assigned to him.
8) An army of Jedi Knights being killed first by the aforementioned anorexic Daffy Duck robots before the survivors are rescued by an army of Clones who later kill the remaining Jedi in the last installment.
9) Political jargon that never amounts to anything important.
10) Qui-Gon Jinn and the fact that he dominates Episode I when Episode I should have featured Obi-Wan Kenobi's importance in the life of Anakin Skywalker, not some unabashedly liberal guy who's only reason for being a liberal is to make the other Jedis look like heartless conservatives.
11) The fact that the Jedi are not more heroic.
12) C-3P0 and R2-D2 being thrown in just for the Hell ofit.
13) R2 having jet packs.
14) The whole nonsense with Jango Fett and Boba Fett.
15) The fact that all it took to get rid of General Zod as the Galactic counselor was to "move for a vote of no confidence". My God, if Superman and the people of Earth had tried the same tactic in Superman II they could have dealt with Zod much more easily and stress free.
16) A planet named "Naboo".
17) Aliens with bad French accents.
18) A "perfectly legal" blockade by alien businessmen who shouldn't even have a private army.
19) The fact that the aforementioned alien businessman have a representative in the galactic senate.
20) The poorly executed Episode II fight between Obi-Wan, Anakin and Christopher Lee.
21) Not enough of that foxy young actress who played the young version of Aunt Beru.
22) Little to any real relationship between Anakin and [Uncle] Owen prior to his becoming Vader.
23) No genuine reason to find Anakin sympathetic.
24) The fact that Anakin turned to the Dark Side was all for a girl who was about as charismatic and engaging as a block of wood.
25) The fact that Padme was heartless enough to reject Anakin's admittedly creepy advances while wearing a strapless leather dress (that's just low).
26) Padme's shirt being torn up by a lion-thing that somehow rips off the entire lower middle section despite the fact that the angle at which the scratch took place would not have allowed for this.

And the list goes on and on...
I am the Fisher King.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Yeah if he’d have gone to the dark side for somebody like Caprica Six, I might have been able to sympathize.

As much as I dislike the prequels, why does virtually EVERYONE on this site hate the prequels so much? Is it the movies? George Lucas? Something else? It seems every other website I go to, the reception for the prequels is mixed (some like, some don't)- but HERE, everyone seems to hate the prequels. I am just wondering why there is a much more percentage of hatred to the prequels here than a lot of other places?

Nerd have a fad, just like any other classified group. The fad for nerds is to hate George Lucas, people dont hate him or his movies, they just dont want to seem different becouse they are all a bunch of mind-numbing freaks who have no opinion of thier own and follow the horde.

As for me, I liked number 1 and 2 but 3 sucked balls.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of course it couldn't possibly be down to the simple fact that the prequels are fucking terrible movies; no, anyone who dares question Lucas's undeniable genius is simply jealous or narrow-minded or 'following the horde' or too stupid to appreciate the incredible depth and subtlety of lines such as "Wheeeeee!" and "Are you an angel?" (take your pick). BullSHIT.

Let me tell me something: back at the time I saw my first Star Wars movie (Return of the Jedi) in my mid-teens, I barely knew who George Lucas was. I had exactly the same opinion of it then as I do now: a cheesy but generally entertaining fantasy story with a few very good moments and a few extremely bad ones. I saw TPM a year or two later and thought it was utter crap - not because I was even aware of the 'fad' for bashing it, but because I can tell the difference between a good movie and a bad one. I can tell the difference between a well-written, coherent storyline and a dull, inconsistent mess with plot-holes the size of a Star Destroyer, between realistic and natural-sounding dialogue and lines that would shame a 1930s B-movie, between characters who are actually deep and sympathetic and those who make me want to carve them up with a rusty breadknife - and so on. And on and on and on and on and on. It has NOTHING to do with envy or nostalgia or bias or following the crowd, so stop trying to make out that it does.

If you don't like to see other people bashing the prequels, piss off. I'm serious: just get the fuck out of here and go to one of the seven trillion other Star Wars fansites where you can rave about Lucas and the PT to your heart's content. This forum is one of the few places on the Net where you can criticise the prequels without being drowned out by a horde of illiterate twelve-year-olds screaming abuse at you, and those of us who do enjoy doing this intend to keep it that way. Learn to put up with it, and if you can't, get lost.

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.
