As much as I dislike the prequels, why does virtually EVERYONE on this site hate the prequels so much? Is it the movies? George Lucas? Something else? It seems every other website I go to, the reception for the prequels is mixed (some like, some don't)- but HERE, everyone seems to hate the prequels. I am just wondering why there is a much more percentage of hatred to the prequels here than a lot of other places?

I don't hate the prequels. I like them. I also understand them, though, which is a big part of why I don't hate them. I consider George Lucas to be a genious, while most people on this forum would disagree. I think someone once said that geniouses are often misunderstood. I just think Lucas has acquired a greater grasp of subtlety, and a lot of people who liked the original trilogy don't know how to deal with that... therefore, since they don't understand what's going on, they hate it. I hated Memento until the end of the movie when I figured out how clever the film actually was.

most people were pulled here by Chefs 'reason to hate' lists, which is the reason for the hate. Everyone else is too intimidated to stay (a guess).

I was personally sucked in by the gravity of Barends post count.

Although I disagree with a lot of whats said, this is the only SW discussion on the internet I take part in. Theres some smart kids here.

Sure, I hate the prequels. But when the chips are down, the stakes are high, and all that junk... I don't really like Star Wars in general.

Dude, my box o’ kittens could make a better PT than George Lucas. Senility does not equal genius.

Your ability to justify GLs crappy decisions and plot holes reminds me of all those times I used to trip on acid and have revelations about how totally connected everything in existence is, and how sounds had colors and colors had textures.

Your logic is remarkably similar to the thought process of people who are tripping themselves insane - faces melting and all.

Yeah, George Lucas is a genius. And Satan once talked to me through Enya’s album, In Memory of Trees.

The board's part of a page entitled "The Nitpicker's Guide to Star Wars".

If that's not the name of a rallying point with all the visibility of a giant neon sign with an enormous inflatable crab on top of it, I don't know what is.

"Why is there so much hatred for the prequels here?"

is the focus on 'why' or 'here'?

we should at some point make an effort to find some common ground so we can talk about a SW theme without arguing...

It's actually the penguins doing. They've been conspiring against us all for hundreds of years now, by cleverly influencing the creation of what we call the OT now, which was so good that it almost hurt. Yet almost wasn't enough for those bloody penguins. So they ate some more fish and did their group-hugging thing for a little while - and then they helped creating the PT, which was so bad it really hurt, especially after nobody was able to recover from the pain of joy the OT once created...

But they're not going to get us! NOT US! Maybe they've send one of their agents through time to kill John Connor...

... but that won't stop us! We're not going down without a fight! yell.gif

Jejef: I understand subtlety, and I hate the one prequel episode that I watched. It's a pretty common trait that some folks have when disagreeing with other folks folks, to say that their opponents are not as smart as they are. You should strive not to be so common. I also watched MEMENTO and while I like it a lot, it has two huge flaws in it that ruin its art-house credibility. I won't go into them because this isn't the topic for it and they're pretty subtle.

Jariten: Thanks for the general compliment, which I'm sure was directed almost entirely to my awe-inspiring genius. Notes to Jejef: Jariten's clever tactic of complimenting his opponent while disagreeing, and the correct spelling of genius.

Sailor: Satan talks to everyone through Enya.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

Nope, not to me, owing to my total lack of esoteric qualities.

A commentaly on Special Edition of OT by Mark Hamill:
"It's got a princess, a smuggler, a wizard and a farm boy- what's there not to like?"

Perquels:
1. Where is the princess? (no, not elected 12-year old queen dressed in tents or senator turned kick-ass ninja turned pregnant ninny)
2. Where is the rougue charming smuggler bad guy with a heart?
3. Where is the wizard? (no, not fake Royal Academy of Dramatic Art accent boring boy with a ponytail/beard and a lizard. And not the guy who got written off from the script after the first hour of the show)
4. Where is the farm boy? (no, not the squeaky-clean yipee toddler turned whining adolescent turned total dumbass)

What's there to like????
