According to this:
bbc.co.uk
The new Star War tv Series will go ahead

besides the interesting point Mr. McCallum says about being over 100 episodes, the point I'm scared is about "It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up". After destroying Vader, now they go after Luke showing his childhood? what are they going to show? a whinny kid like the guy who did vader at 9?

why does it have to cover between Episode 3 and 4? so that Lucas can make more special editions of the OT to accommodate the changes due to the tv series? Why can he do a series 1000 years before EP4 or 1000 years after so there is no contradictions?

well, who cares anyway, we all know what the Lucas-McCallum pair can do to ruin a story.
and doing 100 episodes, unless they came up with something original, my guess is that they will shutdown it well before 100

That is fantastic. Just what we need, a 100 episode show covering a period of time where NOTHING happens. That little bastard better not have any adventures. It is made QUITE clear in the movie that Luke has not had any past adventures. It would further destroy everything ifhe has adventures.

Frig.

Lucas is simply thumbing his nose at us, "indy"?

Oh, but they WILL make 100 episodes, not because they'll care about them being "good enough", but because that number is what they need for syndicated reruns, etc. Money money money.

Syndicated reruns aresn't the goal if the thing sucks right off the bat. In that case, it's "limited series with release to DVD."

TV shows can run one season now and still make money. It's crazy.

I hardly think the quote "It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up" means that the TV show has anything to do with Luke. (The mere thought is just too horrid...) They've said on many occasions that the TV series will not be using any characters from the movies. However, considering the Lucas/McCallum factor, chances of a guest-starring Boba Fett are pretty good. I predict that the last line of the season one cliff hanger will be: "It's Fett! Aaarrrgh!!!" And thousands of fanboys across the globe ejaculate simultaneously.

*snigger* *snigger* Sorry, but "Fett" means "fat" in German. Now I'd love to give a good reply on what you said, but I just can't get past that... *snigger*... Fett... hehe...

Come to think of it, "fett" means "fat" in my language too (Swedish), but as in the US, it's also a slang synonym for "cool". Boba Cool, hmmm... sick.gif

I'm hoping for an episode featuring (Boba + Jango) Bongo Fett, a kewl clone mutation and also the black sheep of the Fett family. Also, I'd like to see extended performances by the Max Rebo Band as they rule the Far Away Galaxys Top Ten with "Jedi Rocks", only to later become a washed out sideshow act in Jabbas palace. I'd like to see the blue hottie Jedi faking her death on Felucia to provide that crucial/obligatory T&A for the TV series. I'm also hoping that *all* artoo units are outfitted with rockets enabling them to fly, with lasers on their heads! Most important of all though, all characters in the TV series should be friends with or related to people in the movies.

Chef should really make a wishlist for the TV series...

Even covering the 20 years of Luke's life without Luke will be super boring! As we can see from the end of Episode III and the beginning of Episode IV, NOTHING happens in those twenty years. The emperor rises to power... a rebellion starts to form then twenty years later the emperor disbands the senate and the rebellion starts up.

And if all the Jedi are dead it's going to be super boring to see what happens in the galaxy without anything political going on or any Jedi.

If by boring you mean "further poisoning the OT with more horrible material", yeah sure, I think you're right. I do however think the era between III and IV has potential. Smuggling refugees, running from the empire etc. Schindlers List in space! tongue.gif Seriously though, the occupation and underground resistance during WW II has inspired a lot of good stories. Might be an angle worth exploring.

So I think there is potential , but it'll probably still be crap.

There will be Jedi, obviously. They're gonna have to include some, wouldn't *sell* otherwise.

The entire plot of Episode I revolved around a trade dispute; if they can get people to watch that, they can get them to watch this. Sadly.

And yes, I'd be prepared to bet large sums of money that Boba Fett will be involved in it somehow. rolleyes.gif

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Stuff happens, but not to Luke. His life is portrayed as boring and uneventful in all the materials created thus far. So it would introduce a contradiction to them, and especially the movies if he suddenly has out having adventures before ANH. The only thing noteworthy is that he (it's implied as "recently" as of ANH) almost got killed in some crazy skyhopper race through Beggar's Canyon with his buddies.

Focusing exclusively on Luke's early life would be incredibly boring. If you made 100 episodes about it, you'd be focusing on the boringness of the moisture farm as he's a little baby crawling around. Ugh. A series that was to be interesting and not introduce contradictions would need to focus on the Empire's consolidating their power (though most of this is already done, and the Rebellion doesn't really start until Luke is grown up anyway, check the opening crawl of ANH! Remember those "foundation of the Rebellion" deleted scenes in ROTS are misnamed... that is the loyalist communittee of the 2000, a movement to check Palpatine's power, not a rebellion against the Empire).

The recent statement about the life of Luke flies in the face of what we'd previously heard about the TV series, in that it would have NO MAJOR CHARACTERS. So even if it focused on the consolidation of Imperial power, I doubt we'd see Vader running around blowing people up in the suit. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan, Vader, the Emperor and the droids are all major characters.

So hopefully this is just misinformation. To a dark place this line of thinking will take us...

No major characters in the TV show.

Lucas picked that time frame cos thats what he likes and feels comfortable in.

being a farm boy and all....

nothing happens... how do we know that?

because luke says so; "if there's a bright center to the universe your on the planet it's farthest from."

these are not the words of a dude who had 100 adventures....

and i'll bet 10 fucking dollars that he ends up using force powers in the show too... only like everything else he'll forget by the time R2D2 and C3P0 show up... those droids must have some fucked up radioactive coils that erase everyones memories...

the only way this show will work is if it's like 'bottom' with luke and biggs... but on a farm.
