If I were standing anywhere near you in real life, I'd give you a standing ovation. It all started with Lucas' dream. I saw the same documentary and if I remember right, 20th Century Fox was the only company that would help Lucas out in making Star Wars. That would be like myself creating an animation (which I am into doing) for myself and having it become an overnight success. The only dream I had would to be able to make my dream visible for everyone else to enjoy. The money Lucas made was just a benefactor of being successful. I understand why we had to wait so long between trilogies, too. It had a lot to do with his ex-wife.

You're absolutely right, ion. He never did it for the money. He nearly went broke in the 16 years between doing the OT and the PT.

thank you very much

Why does it really matter, it doesn't really change the entire movie for me. I don't really care about some of the changes, and if you really do, pissing and moaning is "definitley" a good way to show it.
OH NO!!!

Why are you asking me? YOU decided it mattered enough to YOU enough to start a thread about it and to repeat the Lucas claim that he redid everything to conform to his so-called “original vision”. Of course, after it's shown that claim is utter bullshit with respect to the Greedo scene, you now claim that none of it matters, thereby rendering your own thread irrelevant.

Funny how you decided that supporting a Lucas claim matters, but showing him to be a liar doesn’t.

Frankly I don't care what Lucas does to the Star Wars movies, so long as he makes the Originals available alongside his latest crap cut. That's all I ask.

Most other directors see this (not all, mind you) and provide the original/theatrical versions as well as their director's cuts or enhanced editions. If Lucas did that, I'd have no problem with all this. Though I would miss getting to see the originals again in theaters (I've NEVER seen the original ESB in theaters, only the special edition, and I haven't seen ROTJ or ANH in theaters untouched in over 20 years....).

I guess you just need a DVD projector and your fan edit to do it again, but without the actual FILM it's just not quite the same.

It doesn't matter. The question of who shot first is irrelevant. The thing people aren't seeing is the FACT that Greedo missed. The only changes that bothered me: Jabba the Hutt in ANH, and taking the footage out of ROTJ that shows them leaving Tattooine, after having rescued Han. The latter of which, doesn't really bother me quite as much. I wish Lucas would have left Jabba's scene out of ANH. I'm not pissing and moaning because I didn't make these movies. I still enjoy them. So, it doesn't matter.

See, what I've heard about the reason people don't like the Greedo shooting first is it takes away his development that Solo shoots after being shot at. But, if what I've heard, and having never seen it myself, it... Damn... Forgot my point...

As i recall, the scene still exists where they leave tatooine. is it the one where the x-wing and millenium falcon fly off in different directions? thats still there.

In the original cut of ROTJ, there is a scene where Han, Leia, and Luke are standing outside of the Falcon, discussing where they plan to go to next. There is a strong sandstorm taking place in the scene, which was a man-made storm. They decided it was a little too blurry, so they cut it out of the film. It happened just before the Falcon and the X-Wing flew off in different directions.

I might also add that Greedo held his blaster above the table, where Han could easily see that his life was in danger. If I were in that position, I wouldn't hesitate to grab my blaster and try to get in the first shot, and I don't condone violence. That's not to say Han Solo was a 'kill first, ask questions later' kind of character. He felt threatened. He did what he could to preserve his own life.

Riiiight, that's why Lucas went to ALL that trouble to change the scene and not simply leave it the way it was (and the way he originally wrote it and WANTED it), because it's "irrelevant". wacko.gif
