I got this movie a few months ago from a pawn shop and just decided to watch it now. I figured it would be rather interesting, since I love special features and stuff like that.

The first 45 minutes were great. They showed off all the puppets that were in Jabba's palace, and of course, Big-J himself. They showed off the Sail Barge set, and the thing is unbelievably huge. It's gotta be at least 300x300 feet, all elevated about 15 feet off the ground.

After that though, the movie lacks any real depth. It's mostly just insight into the making of ROTJ. There were some other great parts, like the "moving storyboards" that were made with action figures for the bike speeder chase scene. They were hilarous, but the rest of the movie is rather boring. I was expecting some behind the scenes footage from the first two movies, and we got nothing.

I figure that you should probably see this movie. GL has some really great commentary, so you can hear him before he was a fatass who was just in it for the money.

Anyone else seen it?

You may be able to still find it on myspleen.com, as I believe it's included in either the Star Wars Trilogy Extras or ROTJ Supplementals fan collections...

Or you can order a vhs tape (I think it was only ever released on VHS) from amazon.com's sellers, either a used or "like new" for under $10 or a "new" tape for $30.

I remember my roommate had a copy which I watched a few years ago (great stuff), and that was the first time I'd seen it since I watched it on TV in the 80's after seeing the flick in theaters as a kid.

I actually own this on VHS. It was probably the beginning of my obsession with behind the scenes documentaries. I'll never forget the image of a younger George Lucas saying "A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing."

That sums up the prequels pretty well.
I am the Fisher King.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Thank you for that. I couldn't remember where that line came from and haven't watch "SW to Jedi' for ages.
On a side note, there's a older doc. that can sometimes still be found at conventions on tape that was made about the making of Star Wars ( when it was still called Star Wars.) It ran on tv back in 77 or 78 when everyone was crazy about the movie. George talks about Leia being "a real chump if she fell for Han " when asked about which between Luke and Han she might fall in love with in future films. This documentary is great and should of been on the extra features of the dvd instead of commercials for 'Sith'. Maybe because of comments like that, that's why it isn't.

It's a passion of mine to find all of Georges hypocritical quotes that prove he made this all up as he goes. Nothing wrong with that, it's that he just doesn't admit it and continue to lie to the weak minded.

Excelent phrase Nippatiz, that's indeed the problem, and then hear the fanboys say the story was all set up since the beginning makes me almost puck biggrin.gif
