I finally made myself finish ROTS, and I'm just curious, what the heck is that bone-like structure on Utapau? That and the other structures on the landing pads all seem really out of place, disconnected. It's designed mess. Why is it like that?

I'm sure there's some explanation in the novelization--but you know what---I'm not THAT interested to get the book and read about it. Just thought someone here may have the answer.

Flying Ferret

Battle for the Galaxy--read the "other Star Wars"

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

Those bone-like structures on Utapau are the dwellings of the denizens of Pau City. The whole structure is a mess but they are built on the sides of the planets' cliffs. Utapau has a huge number of enormous sinkholes and canyons. The cities are built into the sides of these sinkholes. As far as I know... these sinkhole cities are considered ground level because the only thing that exists below the sinkholes is a world ocean. Above the peaks of the sinkholes, the wind is so turbulent, that it is hard to navigate across the tops of the plateaus. I think that's why the cities are built in the sinkholes. The annoying iguana creature that we see Kenobi riding on is some sort of cross-breed of a Krayt Dragon and I believe, a Haruun Kal Ankhoxen. Those creatures are bred on Utapau for traversing the caverns between the sinkhole cities. I'm not sure if the bone-like structures are actual bones or if they are deliberately made to look like bones.
