I feel bad for Cheney and Whittington (the man Cheney accidentally shot). My understanding is that the local sheriff's office has done a preliminary investigation and is satisfied that (1) no alcohol was involved and (2) the shooting was indeed accidental.

I'm feeling a lot more contempt for the White House press corps trying to play this up and make it sound like Watergate because the national news media weren't informed about this until about eighteen hours after it happened. (In fact, this story WAS given to a LOCAL reporter down there in Texas shortly after the accident happened, so the local reporter got lucky and scooped the national news media.)
