Area man pulls eBay auction for his vote
Sunday, March 7, 2004
In a time of widespread political apathy, one Missouri City man may have found just the ticket to bring voters back to the polls.
Then again, maybe not.
"My vote in the presidential election" his auction item stated Monday on the Internet's popular eBay site.
Before he could seal a deal, however, the offer was withdrawn Tuesday.
"I am auctioning ONE HOUR of MY TIME to the highest bidder," the site now says. "During that hour you will have my undivided attention while you try to educate and convince me as to why I should vote for the candidate of your choice.
"Of course I reserve the right to vote as I choose," it says, "but will strongly consider your views and opinions in my decision making."
Reached Friday by e-mail, the 39-year-old seller, who agreed to be identified only by his Web name, "davbfd," said he wasn't serious about the original offer and he took it down after concluding that selling one's vote would be illegal and shamefu

Apparently, also in the terms and conditions of his auction, he would be required to move to Florida.
