Since he's fat, and he's blue and he has horns (if you're referring to the same character I'm thinking of) then he must have known using Lucas' visual lexicon.
My question is what happened to Palpatine's ladyfriend from the water opera scene (bleech!) in ROTS who he says "leave us" to along with Mas, to give Anakin the (my Master shot a load of Midiclorians when he had his window open and then there was you....). I was thinking that Palps was beginning to be a cool guy with the ladyfriend (the one that looks like the bald blue gal from Farscape who's a bald blue gal in ROTS) and then she's gone.....

I think Star Wars fans better get to work on this and fill this hole right away!
"Master"... hmmm.... implies S&M... Palpy's dominant, eh? I suppose this is why he has a cane in ROTJ... he got a little too rough once on gimp boy Ameda and strained something...
errr.... I wish I hadn't gone here.

But I respect your question. The desire to understand more of the inner-workings of the PT eludes me.

There was a bit of seriousness in my initial answer to your question. The way lucas approved the look of the aliens gives you an idea of their good/bad status, just look at Watoo in TPM and his appearance, him being the boss, etc. The fact MA was at the Mon Calamari water opera and left like the bitch he was when Palpatine told him to gives you an idea of his appiliation, as well as standing near Palps (IIRC?) when he announces to the drunken Muppet rabble that he's establishing an Empire. I woudn't be surprised if a future DVD extra would have a scene just before MA leaves and Yoda enters to confront Palpatine, a scebe where MA says in a Southern accent, "you really gave it to them good boss, there with that 'Order 66' yup yup!" Why would Palpatine surround himself with someone who wan't loyal. after all he could have had Bail Organa/Jimmy Smits/the next President of the USA on the West Wing to have a guy therenext to Palpatine indicating he has doubts.

sorry for the general veer.
I didn't say that Smits was a Republican, and I knew that WW was canned (poor Jimmy! Maybe he'll get an Academy nod for best supporting actor for ROTS?). But in true WW fashion, I think he as the fictional Democratic cantidate will win at the series finale.

Sorry If implied. As a non-viewer, I consider it laughable that Alan Alda represents a mean, money-grubbing republican. Guess I'd better watch while I have the chance.
Back on topic: "Mas Amedda was the Vice Chair of the Galactic Senate during Chancellor Valorum's term, a position he continued to hold as Chancellor Palpatine's transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire. Amedda's booming voice often called for order when the partisan nature of the Republic's government degenerated into pointless bickering. In an alien gesture of authority, he would often punctuate such calls with a flicker of his long, forked tongue.
Amedda was fully aware of Chancellor Palpatine's Sith allegiance as the Clone Wars drew to a close. He tasked Palpatine's personal clone troopers to scour the Senate for any traces of the fugitive Jedi Master, Yoda."

When JABBA does it, everyone's on his ample ass and takes him to task for the bong and snack frogs, but with MA does it, its an "alien gesture". The first part reminded me of why I'ddoze of in social studies class and draw airplanes and the like. Bo-ring!
As for Jimmy Smits, I don't watch the Left Wing myself, mostly because the crazed look in Martin Sheen's eyes early on and the way he carried on in public as if he were the real elected president turned me off. I bet Smits was cursing up a storm as he probably thought his character was going to win and he'd have more regular work.
Since the forum has died down a bit since ROTS's release, and if there were more time, I'd encourage the start of a goofy petition to get Jimmy Smits an Oscar nomination for the ROTS role and an Emmy nod as well, but it is late, and I don't care as I'm sure as many of you don't, and he already got a daughter out of the deal......

Yeah, I love the irony there, too. Nope, nope, no bias at work here at all.
It also cracks me up as the ratings got lower and lower for this show, the louder the "critics" crowed about how great it was. I notice that about a lot of shows... Same with "Commander-in-Chief"
Even though I'm no fan of Martin Sheen, it was still a thrill when I saw him (and Emilio) at the amusement park I was working at.
