"Star Wars" gets revenge at People's Choice
Tuesday January 10 11:45 PM ET

Epic space adventure "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" won best overall film and best drama honors on Tuesday at the People's Choice Awards, a widely watched measure of movie, television and star appeal.

In two other film categories, box office hit "Wedding Crashers" was named top comedy and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was chosen as the favorite family movie.

For "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, the People's Choice Awards held special significance because winners are voted on by fans who cast ballots online, unlike other Hollywood honors given by industry groups and the media.

Despite being a multibillion-dollar film franchise, the six "Star Wars" movies have had a mixed record with critics and Hollywood award groups. "I'm not a big favorite with the critics, but who listens to them," Lucas said onstage. "The reason I make films is for you. The audience rules."

TV Guide mentioned it was coming on. "You vote, so when ROTS wins, don't blame us" or something like that was the blurb.

Popularity polls are like that, given a scant choice. About half the people will ALWAYS say we have a lousy president.

This person's choice is that Lucas sucks, he let me down, and he can wipe himself in his shit all he wants. He's not going to smell any better.

RotS was a good movie. Prequel-bashing isn't always necessary. Although there was some moments in the prequels that were bad. You can't compare old Star Wars with the new ones. Technologies and everything are different between the two genres.

Maybe the mayonaise sandwich eating inbreds are right and if I lose a few teeth by drinking Kool Aid for breakfast and all day during, as well as move into a double-wide trailer, I'll like ROTS as well.

Good one, DP.

here's that tv guide article (I only subscribe because I got in at a nickel an issue).

"People's Choice Awards:
the tribe has spoken and it's time to find out if Reese Withersoon is the Favorite Leading Lady and if Matthew McConaughey can if fact take fellow Male Action Star nominee Brad Pitt. Craig Ferguson hosts the 32nd annual shout-out, but don't shout at him if 'Revenge of the Sith' scores any statues. We have ourselves to blame for that."

No, I'm not high, unless you can get a high contemplating the happiness the PT brought you as a kid, and I suppose the option to vent at the mess the PT is thanks to ChefElf's reasons and this fine forum. I'm of the opinion that the people who vote for "People's Choice" are more like another winner, the guy who plays "My Name Is Earl" than someone with some reading and writing abilities. {eople's Choice is beyond contempt, and so many awards are given out on an all too frequent basis which renders many awards meaningless.

Despondent, no need to apologise for reading TV Guide, its an alright publication (although I don't pick it up or read it). Maybe this year's Academy Awards will have a CGI Yoda giving out an award to someone, like #PO and R2 did when ANH came out in 1978. Mayonaise sandwich, anyone?

Ha ha, that's hilarious that ROTS won best film at the People's Choice Awards. In all honesty though, ROTS was probably the best movie I saw all year (Although it was a bad year for films overall). Batman Begins would have got my vote if the fighting sequences weren't so horribly filmed. You can't see anything during them.

Batman Begins was probably the most underrated film of the year, it managed to make cash for a story pretty much everyone knew already but did the retelling in aq really interesting manner, unlike King Kong. Imagine if the Batman Begins team were the ones doing the PT.Well, they had Qui Gon and managed to give him a lotmore to do than Lucas did in TPM.

The people who voted, who made thier "Choice" known, are the same ones who currently give a SH*T that Angelina is carrying Brad's baby, and bring it up as legitimate conversation when they get together, as if the fate of Western civilization and the world hang in the balance. Time to thin the herd.......

The OT has millions of fans, and its "beloved by millions!"

The PT has millions of fans, and suddenly now its "they're all idiots!"

I love these double standards. keep 'em coming guys.

Two things I must say, because I watched the show actually.

First of all given the other two films, Hitch (Which I thought was really good), and Batman Begins (also good) standing next to a Star Wars film (third one that didn't hold up to how good it ought to have been a.k.a. better than the OT), they didn't have a chance. Why, because a. it's Star Wars, and b. it didn't suck as bad as the last two. The fact that Harrison Ford was presenting the award was an enormous tip off.

Secondly, when I was watching this happen, the first thought to enter my mind was that jariten was going to make a thread about it. I SO TOTALLY FREAKING KNEW IT!

Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.
