My girlfriend of just over 6 months finally agreed to buckle down and watch the star wars films with me.

We have been watching the 2004 Official DVD's of the Original Trilogy (we are going in the order of creation, not timeline order) and she has already seen both STAR WARS, and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

Heres where I am a little uneasy...

I am trying to think if it'd be a good idea to show her Return of the Jedi on DVD form because of all the changes made to it, everything from no ewok song, to the sickening Jedi Rocks song, to line dialogue changes to fucking Hayden Christiansen at the end.

Now...I have the 1992 VHS boxed set of the films, which would include the unaltered, pre SE changes.

Should I use one of this version of ROTJ to expose the film to her, or should i just sit back, and play Concernicus while we watch the DVD's. I have never viewed these tapes myself, they used to belong to a wrestling coach of mine, and he gave them to me because he found out how much I like star wars and never had a real legit set of my own....the set he gave me looks to be in fairly good condition, so I am assuming the tapes are in good condition as well...or at least as good as a VHS can get.

Whats your guys' call?

Zip through the tape and make sure the quality's ok, that's what I'd do. Let her suffer through one; then the other. She'll appreciate it more.

It's like a space/time continuum. Eps OOT: 4, 5, 6; OPT: 1, 2, 3;
OT DVD: 4, 5, 6....

Use your feelings, Giff,
and find the answer, you will. But make her wear Leia's metal bikini throughout.

I think if you show her the DVD version, you should immediately chapter skip over Jedi Rocks. Though the end of the original one is better, I don't think the cornbalishness of the end is COMPLETELY unbearable. Plus consider that it's her first time so she probably won't tune into things like you or I would. Other than the Jedi Rocks Song, I think that would ruin it a bit.

Show her the dvd's.

If you had the first version, id tell you to show her that, but since its between one revision and another, choose the most recent one.

UPDATE!

I found a solution to my problem! biggrin.gif

I downloaded a copy of the TR-47/Cowclops V.2 original trilogy laserdisc rips and burned it to a DVD.

I watched it today and the quality is great and its the same movie I watched as a child happy.gif

I am going to get the other two films and keep those in my collection for when I feel like a purist and want to watch the "original" original original trilogy.

I dont feel guilty about doing it either because I do have legit copies of the DVD's(the more expensive 4 disc set, not the cheaper, newer 3 discer) and legit copies of the tapes and countless other marketing items.

Thanks for helping me out with my problem & MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

I've heard good things about the Edit Droid Collection, I'd check those out if I were you. wink.gif

Each movie has a supplemental disc of classic/retro extras. The only thing missing is the mono track for the original Star Wars, but you can probably find that someplace too!

It's supposed to be the best overall, until the X0 Project that is...!

I have heard great things about a few different sets.

The Cowclops/TR-47 transfers were the favorites of Prillaman ( http://www.prillaman...w-bootleg3.html ) and I had the torrent links tothose...so I went with them.

Garret Cilchrist of Orange Cow Productions just mailed me copies of the CLASSIC EDITION versions of his films.

The classic edition is interesting in the sense that it uses the 2004 DVD's for about 90% of the films...but wherever there was a special edition (or 2004 dvd) change made to the film...he digitally fixed it using a matte with the laserdisc transfers. Very masterfully done.

Check out some of hte threads about them on the ORIGINALTRILOGY.COM forums.

I found all of these on the www.originaltrilogy.com forums. pretty cool stuff.

There awesome! But they give the whole story away. Not for first time viewers! devil.gif
It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.
