I'm not sure he could play a fat short man, and I don't think it is a good idea to hire such a famous actor just to appear two or three times in the whole movie.

If he wasn't dead, Ronald Lacey (also known as the creepy bespectacled Nazi in Raiders of the Lost Ark whose face melts) would have made a good Lenkmann. I always pictured him as someone along those lines.
Signatures are overrated.

Personally, I think that Roger Moore would make a good Trilby because he's fairly nondescript, but the eyebrow adds a touch of insanity.
I think that gal off "Doctor Who" ought to play Simone, Billie Piper, I mean.
I think Captain Chahal really should be played by Morgan Freeman and that the other one by Bill Cosby because he too is a doddering old fella.
I reckon that maybe a Nolan sister could do Siobhan (No Yank would be even vaguely aware of what I mean here).
The Tall Man could be just about any lank with a mask.
Finally, Lenker might just be able to be pulled off by Willem DeFoe because they both have grins that look like they're about to eat something in a vaguely reptilian way.

This is the worst list ever. If you'd recommended Arnold Schwarzeneggar for Trilby and Jim Carrey for Lenkmann it would only have been slightly worse.
As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I realised that it could do with a lick of paint.

This was discussed before, but I really think Johnny Depp as Trilby is the best choice.

Alternatively, what about Cillian Murphy as Trilby?

Ewww, no way, no, never! I spend most of Batman Begins imagining myself hitting him in the face with a shovel.

*shudders*

Unless if you want to make that movie extra creepy.

Or extra Pretty wub.gif I could see him as more of a Sommerset though. Cillian that is. Mostly, I want to kidnap him and have him read to me.

The problem with a lot of these actors is that they don't look an awful lot like Trilby. Ashton Kutcher? Not even close. Why don't you use the pictures from the end of TN (and the sketches from the SE of 5 Days) as a reference?

Then again, the first person who always pops into my head when I see those is Alan Rickman, and I think he'd be a bad choice. I mean, he may or may not be a good actor, but a crapload of the younger viewers will see him as Trilby and think, "Hey, that's Snape from Harry Potter!" This is a very, very bad thing. The last thing we want is some fanbrat writing Trilby/Hermione fan fiction.

I say you should find a good, unknown actor for Trilby. Don't pick an actor that's associated with some other franchise. Oh yeah, and pick one that actually looks like him.

A noob actor to play the most important character of the series? It's better let this as a last resort. There must be some actor we have missed. There must be.

I never said the actor should be a stupid noob or anything like that. Just mostly unknown. An unknown actor is not necessarily a idiotic one. See, if you pick an unknown actor, he won't have other roles you'll automatically associate with him. If you pick Ashton Kutcher, for instance, you'll think of that idiot from That 70s Show or some other stupid show/movie. If you pick Alan Rickman, you think of Snape from Harry Potter. If you pick an unknown, yet talented actor who plays the part well, you'll associate him with Trilby.

Anyone who thinks of Alan Rickman solely as Snape I would enjoy bludgeoning repeatedly with a lead pipe.

I am perfectly well aware that Alan Rickman is not just Snape. I am just saying that many of the viewers of the 5 Days movie would be young idiots who have only seen him in the Harry Potter movies.

In all fairness, with the graphic violence of 5DAS, I doubt it would be aimed at an audience so young that they can't disassionate Alan Rickman from Professor Snape.

Who am I trying to kid? Yes, you are right. If I was assigned as director for the 5DAS movie (just an assumption, of course) I would choose a new actor. But I would only choose him after months of acting tests. He cannot be less than perfect for the paper.

Roderick DeFoe: Gary Sinise. If you think he doesn't look like Roderick, look him here.
