I got Catch-22. Brave New World, The Brothers Karamazov, and Runny Babbit (all books, for those not in the know. And that latter one is a posthumous Shel Silverstein release), The Dark Crystal on DVD, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins (gorgeous case and artwork, and great music to boot), a sweater, a wristpad for my mouse-hand, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2, and Viewtiful Joe 2 for my GameCube, aaand... bubble gum in my stocking. Though in complete honesty, all I wanted was money to visit my girlfriend, since she can't mail herself here...

Trip to the nephews for nerf dart tag, the return of Louispup and new puppy, Stuckey were seasonal offerings. SW OT DVDs, the "sanctioned" ones; nice holiday ornaments, a tall box of slimjims, Charlie Brown Snowglobe, Coolpix digital camera and giftcard from work, some pots and pans, cash, chocolate. I still have a couple of gifts to unwrap. I have a backache and some meds, but that's beside the point. A rusty euphonium. A sturdy quilt. TreatZ for the pups.

Your love for the Great Roald Dahl warms my heart, Chyld.

But who doesn't love Roald Dahl. We must have read all of his books in primary school.

Aye, and I can claim ultimate smugness rights for being the nearest Nightlifer to the good mans grave (Great Missenden, quite possibly no more than five miles from where I sit). I really ought to visit it someday.

Quick rant: Matilda was allegedly set in Little Missenden, quite possibly the tiniest little English village you could imagine. So whoever directed the film version was having a right fucking laugh...

I don't know very many Americans who even know who the man is. They get mad because the movie "'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' is a remake of Gene Wilder's 'Willy Wonka' and they changed everything!" and only know of Matilda and James from their respective movies. And you only get WTF if you mention the BFG...

Bleh. I need to move to Europe. tongue.gif

...I hate to admit it, but I didn't know anything about The BFG either until a bit of it was read on the CatCF DVD. The first thing that always popped into my head was "Big Fucking Gun?"

I am a stupid American. blushing.gif

Oh hush, we're not all that bad. In grade school we read the Charlie and the Chocolate factory and watched the movie afterwords and the teacher asked us what some differances were. So it's not like we're totaly un-educated about pop-culture.

But as for matilda and James and the Giant peach... well, yeah I got nothing.

Spoon: I read all of the Roald Dahl books when I was wee. Though Janey: A lifetime of video games does make one think of Big Fucking Gun when referring to BFGs. It's in the ID shooters, you know.

For me, Dahl's true skills weren't in his childrens stories though (as great as they were), but more in his short story adult writing.

I meant for adults, not porn...

anyway, Chyld

I used to hate getting vouchers like that. I mean, Woolworths?! Not HMV, or even Boots? WOOLWORTHS?!!

Even better, he in fact lived in my hown town for a while after the war, and in fact wrote said book I've got now while he was. Quality.

And yes, Woolworths vouchers are the suck. But even so.

Woolworths vouchers are your relatives way of making you buy stationary, for school, college, and such.
