Re-Cast the Prequels:

EPISODE I:
Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Liam Neeson did a fine job as the character that SHOULD have been Obi-Wan

Anakin Skywalker
- Unknown Actor from his late teens or early-twenties. Christian Bale might have been a good choice at the time.

Leia's Mom
- Unknown Actress. While Keira Knightley would perhaps have been the choice, I question my judgment because Lucas picked her as well, and I'd bet she was a finalist for the role which is why she received the handmaiden nod. Unfortunately, she would have been too young (13 at the time) to do the part justice, I would guess, although that raises an interesting question: Is she really as young as they say she is. With the recent scandal about Ashton Kutcher really being 30 years old, I wonder if, perhaps, Keira was downplaying her age when PIRATES came out last year.

Jar-Jar Binks
- No, thank you.

Palpatine
- Ian McDiarmid is handling the job well enough, let's just keep the awful dialogue away from him and it'll all be okay.

The plot in its TPM context was missing a moral free agent like Han Solo. It is absolutely VITAL that such a man exist, or that Anakin be that man. As a matter of fact, there's a nice little parallel there: Anakin goes from kind of neutral to bad and Han went from neutral to good.

That's my list.

That's scary. I hope you're not thinking about punk chicks with pink hair wearing vinyl bikinis while roller-skating, otherwise my powers will be fully realized and that can only mean that the time has come for me to realize my destiny and fight crime using the powers of the mind... as soon as I get in a nasty car wreck and become a quadriplegic. See, that would ruin my weekend.

Keira Knightley would have been a great choice for Padme. Is she truly that young?

According to The Innacurate Movie DataBase (IMDB.com) she will be 19 years old on March 26, 2004.

Why not cast Colleen Haskel, cute loveable girl from survivor season 1

I'm in love, and if you see her, you will be too.

I have seen Keira Knightley and she is indeed a great actress as well as being pretty hot. I think a lot of you are chosing her for the same reason that Lucas chose Portman-they both bare a resemblence to Carrie Fisher. I am not sold on the fact that Luke's mother NEEDs to look like Princess Leia. The only visual requirement for Anakin and Amidala is that one of them is blonde and one of them is dark haired. Is there any reason why Amidala couldn't be blonde, while Anakin is the one with dark-hair?

While on the subject of Anakin, I kind of always pictured Anakin as being dark-haired and hazel eyed. I thnk dark hair would give Anakin's character more of that edge and that "darkness and rage behind the light" look that is so vital to the Anakin character. It would also provide good contrast for the blonde features of his antogonist Obi-Wan Kenobi. We need someone who is not a fair-haired Hollywood pretty boy, but an actor who has intesity and somewhat ordinary hero looks. Anakin, has to be someone we could all identify with and could potential be at some point. Think overlooked, unappreciated hero with ambitions and desires unfilled. Hayden Christensen fails in capturing any of that. These are the kind of actors I have considered for Anakin:

1. Joshua Jackson-{guy from dawson's Creek}
2. Tobey Maguire {makes a horrible Spider-Man, but might be able to pull it off as Anakin, height would be a problem though, looks a little like Ewan MacGregor too which could be a problem}

I am not completely thrilled with both of those choices, but they are along my line of thinking. In the end I would probably cast an unknown for this role based on a composite of what I think Anakin should be. Basically what I am looking for is a younger version of Tom Cruise in Top Gun, with some better depth and less machismo. Look at Tom Cruise performance in Top Gun, that is kind of a piece of a tone of the performance that I am looking for. Visually I am thinking of a charcter that looks like Wil Wheaton did toward the end of the Star Trek: The Next Generation, with maybe a little more musculature. Just visually looking like Wi Wheaton, {Although IMO Wil Wheaton wouldn't be a bad actor to play Anakin if not for his age} So I would search for an acor with those qualities. Don't know if one exists, but anybody would be better than Hayden Christenson.

Damn! If that's the criteria you're looking for Mike then I should have been playing Anakin. I knew I missed my calling. Now I know where it went. biggrin.gif
