The best fantasies I've ever read. Tolkien included.

fantastically engaging. I read like two parragraphs of the sample chapter on GRRM's website and was instantly re-addicted.

I can't believe how few people here are reading it.

If you are a fantasy fan, you owe it to yourself to read GRRM. If you're not, and are turned off by the massive amounts of copycat garbage that has infected the genre, these are the books to try. Complex characters in a robust and intoxicating world, painted by the hand of a master. This stuff is gold.

Also take a look at Fevre Dream, Martin's take on vampires. It's Dracula meets Life on the Mississippi.

I've heard nothing but praise about these books, so naturally I'm trying to get into them. Actually, I have been trying to get into them for the last two months. All the copies in my local libraries seem to be perpetually borrowed. And with tons of exams coming up, I doubt I'll have time to read anything entertaining for a while anyway.

So, yeah, if I ever manage to get my hands on a copy, I'll get back to you.

Okay okay, I shall read them at some point in time. When I'm not busy with life, studies and drawing. Don't really know if such a time will ever come to pass, but hey, at least I'm interested now.

Amazon used to tell me that it would be out shortly after my birthday last year, but the date conveniently got moved to somewhere around... April this year, or something? So yeah, I've just been trying to pass the time by asking a question that I sort-of-knew the answer to already.

Would like to point out that this thread here got me interested in the first place, and I don't think I even really read any of the posts in here.
