Good old Yoda, well i apparently lost to Palpatine, gave it a good whack tho didn't i, cya later universe.

But damnit Luke, you better not the hell give up! That's not the Jedi way.

Also didn't everyone love it infinity times better when the Emperor was a cunning political manipulator, a sower of deciet and lies, the corrupt head of government. Rather than some wildly pirouetting, mindlessly cackling, mid air spinning, lightsaber missle, jedi destroyer?

I don't understand why people like Yoda so much. He trained Jedi for 800 years....big deal. He trained them in a time when the Sith threat was non existent. And when it did arise, Dooku could have killed Yoda but spared Yoda's life as a sign of respect to his old master, Yoda couldn't tell Palpatine was a Sith Lord, and Yoda got his green ass whooped by the Emperor. He's just a lousy, pathetic Jedi.

Even in ESB he is nothing special. And despite what people think, he's a horrible teacher. Luke isn't able to lift the X-Wing out of the swamp on his first try, so Yoda does it himself. What kind of teacher is that? I'm actually studying to become a teacher right now and if I ever face a situation where my students can't get something on the first try , I don't see how completing the task for them would help them learn anything.

No wonder the guy went into exile. He must of realized he was toxic to the universe.

I think palpatine looked a whole lot cooler and threatening before his face got scarred, except in RotJ.

Yoda, he is awsomely cool, he would have killed dooku if he hadnt had to save obi wan and anakin. and losing to palpatine isnt that bad, he is incredibly strong. also, luke was hatin on yoda. yoda wanted to show luke that it wasnt impossible and that size matters not.

The day Yoda began bouncing around is the day I lost respect for him. Pathetic.

I'll take "do or do not, there is no try...." over the "he is the Chosen One according to the prophecies..." stretched out over three movies and in the midle of the last "a prophecy misread could have...."

We know little more or perhaps less about Yoda and Obi Wan by extension thanks to the non-effort of the PT and we perhaps never will get any origins of substance from GL. Furthermore, the action onscreen causes one to lose whatever respect we had for the characters of the OT by the end of the PT, with Obi's riding a giant lizard, Yoda/Sonic, etc. Even though the Emperor sounded like a used car salesman toward the end of ROTJ< there was the hope that the sinister mannerism with which he carried himself whould be ample material to draw from for a kickin' prequel, but it was not to be. What motivated Palpatine except the vague quest for "power"? Was he abused by Gungans as a kid, so he decided to become an Intergalactic Emperor in the hopes of building a death Star to wipe the bastards out once and for all? The mind boggles at the lost opportunities.....

Circa ROTJ, The Chef Elf Special Edition:

YODA: "When 900 years old YOU reach, look as good YOU will not! Unless a Multibillionaire doffus with a fetish for flannel shirts takes your dignity away with a Prequel Trilogy and really bad CGI renderings of you....."

Do or do not...Yoda "did not" against the Emperor. He didn't say "it can't be done," he said "I failed."

Is Yoda thinking of his own failure when he tells Luke "there is no try"? When he levitates the X-wing for Luke, is he proving to himself that he still has some power left?

I always thought it was necessary for Luke to see that it *could* be done, since an important part of his training was breaking down the preconceived notions of reality that he had built up over the years.

It would have been okay if Yoda lifted the X-wing out of the swamp and then put it back into the swamp. This would have helped break down Luke's "preconceived notions of reality" and also would have forced him to have learned how to do it. By Yoda doing the job for Luke, it essentially paves the way for Luke to travel down "the quick and easy path". If Luke actually had to lift the X-Wing out of the swamp, that would have been a more a longer and more difficult path.

Just thought of something else.

"Only a sith deals in absolutes!"

"Do or Do not, there is no try"

It appears that Yoda was evidently also a Sith in disguise. Fuck George, could you have at least watched your films before you vomited up your new scripts.

i'm glad you actually said all that...
i agree...

but worse than that...

it was a peice of technology submerged in mud.
If anything, raising the X-Wing out of the swamp should have been the First lesson.

Yeah Yoda. How dare you?! But hasn't the Sith in disguise been brought up already?
