We know that, but look how Luke turned out. Now he may have been some kind of Jedi paragon or something, but it seems his age wasn't too much of a barrier to his doing well.

This was your reply to the latter of the two posts. I won't refer to the first one because it is of a ridiculously silly nature.

I think Luke was very susceptible to the dark side. Here is an excerpt from the actual script from ROTJ:

Luke's eyes are full of rage. Vader watches him.

Emperor: Good. I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon! Strike me down with all your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete.

Luke can resist no longer. The lightsaber flies into his hand. He ignites it in an instant and swings at the Emperor. Vader's lightsaber flashes into view, blocking Luke's blow before it can reach the Emperor. The two blades spark at contact. Luke turns to fight his father.

- onto the next scene aboard the Death Star -

Luke and Vader are engaged in a man-to-man duel of lightsabers even more vicious than the battle on Bespin. But the young Jedi has grown stronger in the interim, and now the advantage shifts to him. Vader is forced back, losing his balance, and is knocked down the stairs. Luke stands at the top of the stairs, ready to attack.

Emperor: (laughing) Good. Use your aggressive feelings, boy! Let the hate flow through you.

Luke looks momentarily toward the Emperor, then back to Vader, and realizes he is using the dark side. He steps back, turns off his lightsaber, and relaxes, driving the hate from his being.

This is the official script from ROTJ. I'm pretty sure it clearly shows that Luke was tempted by the dark side a time, or two.

Yeah, isn't that sad? Throughout the whole movies they're trying to tell you that Palpatine is a master mind. And then this happens... *sigh*

Luke: WWWWWWWARRRRGH!!! I'm going to kill you until you're dead!
Palpatine: YES! That's the way - to the DARK SIDE!
Luke: Oh... it is?
Palpatine: YUP! Go for it! Wheeeee-... eh... Hey, why'd you turn your light-saber off? blink.gif

I already said that it was silly, so unless you were joking there, don't be such an ass.

About the script; yes I know, and agree that he was succeptible to it. And that he does give in a little, especially when Vader mentions Leia. But, he doesn't fall to the dark side. He turns from it, tossing away his lightsaber instead of killing his father.

Gobbler, I thin that you would like this.

Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.

True. In the movies, that's exactly what happened... but what about afterwards? When Luke was up against Mara Jade? I know the EU isn't canon, but I think every Jedi is susceptible to the dark side, but some of them are strong enough to resist it. Along the same lines as the Jedi Masters who were trained later in life, there were quite a few that left the Order and joined the dark side. Depa Billaba, K'kruhk, Quinlan Vos... hell, even Mace Windu for a short period of time. My point is: the older the Jedi is, the more susceptible to corruption and seduction they are.

Mara Jade, of course never existed.

you can't defend the prequels in one argument, the quote or reference EU material the PT redundafied.

but, ultimatley all jedi would be tempted by the dark side regardless of what age they started or how well trained they were.

obiwan had a well tempered and masterful teacher, obiwan had a brat that was being played, and luke had been stuck in the desert yearning for more.

infact that's a funny thing...

luke grew up in a loving family situation, and wasn't taken away to the jediorphanarium. and he turned out better than anyone else...

that's some more silly post OT bullshit flattened.

Very true. But on the other hand, Obi-Wan and Yoda were two Jedi that started from infancy and although they may have had a brush or two with temptations of the dark side, they never succumbed fully to the dark side. The main reason Yoda stated Anakin and Luke were too old is because he was comparing them to himself and Jedi similiar to him. It's all just a ridiculous rule I'm sure Yoda made up when he was appointed to the Council.

why not just get the Jedi to breed the little sods?

"There is no emotion, there is peace."

That means that no emotion, especialy love can get in a Jedis way, otherwise they become parents, hense they will be miserable for the rest of thier lives, hence they will get pissed and try to conquer/destroy the galaxy, I mean, look at Anikan, same thing happened to him.
