I just got watching the director's commentary on the Episode III DVD (my sixth viewing of the movie sad.gif). And Lucas actually jokes that the reason it took so long is because there were supply problems, union disputes and design flaws.

I have to respect him for actually making a joke of such an obvious flaw/oversight in the plot of the movie. The fact that he admits it and laughs about it is fine, it's when he lies about all the other stuff that it's annoying.

However, I don't respect the myriad other lies he tells about how he 'always' invisioned certain things and wrote this entire story in 1973. dry.gif

it was funny when peter jackson admits that Denethor would have had to run a rediculously long way to do his flamming stage dive in Return of the King, (not to mention a flight or two of stairs) but a 15+ year difference is just too much.

from everything we're shown in the SW universe (considereing all approved predated material such as KOTOR) it seems that the progression of technological advancement had plateaued sometime ago.

of course then there seems to be some retrograde leading into eps 4-6.

if anything... the second one should have taken longer.

ADDITIONAL:

in fact nothing he says at this point is worth anything.

i remember seeing ROTS pix from early shooting where hayden had his long hair and was wearing the same brown white 70s style robes as sebastian shaw's ghost.

but in the end, he spent the whole film in black.

what happened there?

for all GLs claims about intended continuity, and his actions of constant re-editing and alteration to scorce material, he's so full of crap.

I would have thought that with the need to consolidate power, the now Imperial Fleet and personell (non-clone types) would be spread kinda thin so building the Death Star would have proceeded slooowly to say the least and the need to test new technologies would push the project back a ways. Also, since the bugs who supposedly designed and built it are supposedly the ones building it, its should take way longer because they don't seem to have a lot of lifting ability as beings, they go down in ATOC with little or no effort because they have little physical strength, how they manage to lug materials around with ease is beyond me. Their non-appearance in the OT makes one believe that they died out as a species by the time the events of episode IV start to unwind. How creatures that live in a termite like place construct a state of the art modern battle station is beyond me.

And with the exception of the plating, the Death Star at the end of ROTS seems to be more complete than the one in ROTJ. It would have been better if George got drunk and gave "F-you all" commentary throughout the PY. Now, there's a bonus feature I'd pay to see.......

It never made sense to me that you would build a Death Star from scratch.

It would make more sense to use a moon or asteroid as a starting point.
Mine the materials for resources and the like.

I always imagined that they took a Star Destroyer and struck it off the Imperial Fleet's roll of active ships to use as a basis to build the Death Star. The initial project would have needed some propulsion and guidance systems to stay in place, not to mention life support and the like, maybe the hull plates could have been removed and gradually reearranged to start with the death Star construction, In either case, the Death star construction would have needed some heavy ships guarding it and some sort of facility or planet/moon/asteroid as you pointed out to get materials from.

Why then choose Endor?Unless it was a moon of a larger planet with resources, and if there were such a planet, the clones and certainly the bugs couldn't survive its massive gravity, let alone mine it.

The whole thing wasn't thought out allto well to say the least.......

Ok, how about explaining that Padme got pregnant because she forgot to take her pill one evening ...That would be to me more or less the same level and quality of jokes. Jay-zuz. Will this man ever stop to think?

I am not going to but this DVD, but I won't mind reading some more of such jewels , just to feel better myself... Hope you'll keep us posted, Chefelf?

I hear he is releasing yet another re-edited version of the OT.

It's funny. I seriously don't care how many times he changes the OT. The important thing to me is that I own the originals on VHS. It's hilarious observing all the ridiculous changes he has made.

What a great idea. Do Death Stars have engine covers? We know they have exhaust ports...
