I'm personally interested in a Yahtzee Takes On The World collected book. It'd be easy to do through a POD company like Lulu.com. Is there any interest in this?

Yahtzee I don't know if you time or even interest to do such a thing. I'd be happy to make it for you if you give me permission to do so.

A good idea if I may say so, I'd buy it. I try so many times to get people interested in YTOTW as it's one of the best webcomics around but its a bit difficult as they usually read a few and then get distracted and want to show me something they've found recently or whatever. I feel that If a collecters book was availible then not only would I be able to get more people into it but YTOTW would be around to bring joy to millions even after the internet goes up in a big fiery ball of porn.

YTOTW I consider part of my 'training' as a writer and humourist. For a year and a bit I churned out a strip a day, then for another year and a bit I wrote an update for FR every day. Between these two I like to think I carved myself into the man I am today.

That said, however, I'm really not that proud of YTOTW compared to later works. There are some strips I'm proud of but an equal number - in fact, a much bigger number - of strips that make me want to stick my own fist down my throat at the sheer lameness of it. I didn't work out the characters as well as I usually do now and most of them fit into tired webcomic stereotypes (stupid guy, mad scientist, 'straight' girl, author insertion character). In my opinion Angular Mike and Chris & Trilby are both more consistently funny.

The retrospective was great, but you didn't directly answer the question. I mean, I'm asking if I can do some free work for you to have these printed. It's a win-win situation for you, as you do nothing and you might gain something if a copy or two were sold. Mostly, it's for my own personal pleasure (and maybe Walexei's too) if you don't want it sold. I'm not even asking you to endorse it. In fact, if you want I can include a page with your dis-endorsement!

Then why are you still asking for permission? It's on the internet, it's public domain, you could have done it without my knowledge at any time and I wouldn't have cared as long as you didn't make any serious money from it. If you want to do it, do it, but don't ask me to get enthusiastic about the spreading around of something that I don't think is a good example of my ability anymore.

Alright, thanks again for the reply. I didn't ask you to get enthusiastic. And I asked permission because I didn't consider it public domain, I considered it your copyrighted work and I would have felt wrong about doing it without your knowledge or permission even if I had done it and you had never been aware of it.

You could always say that you drew and wrote the whole thing Brandon, im sure yahtzee would love that, specially if you made a wad. .

I think what you need to remember yhatzee is that whilst it's completely fair enough for you to see YTOTW as no longer a good representation of your ability, other people do still enjoy it and may even want to pay for it. Take for example rock bands that manage to stay famous for more than 2 or 3 albums. You will find that they change their musical style radically as time goes on and feel that their older stuff just isnt what they do any more and isnt what they are about and all that stuff, but at the same time they don't complain when somebody goes out and buys their first album and enjoys it. Why? Because they make money, somebody enjoys their music and they may even like it enough to go out and buy some of their later stuff and keep track of what the band is up to.

I think I may have gone into that metaphor a bit far but the point is clear: Never ever wave at a sleeping haddock at an angry bear.
