It's like that in Judaism and Islam as well. Judaism actually has commands set down by god (Kosher) about how to prepare food and how to wash your damn dishes.

It makes sense though given how simple the people must have been at the time. You could either tell them that eating an animal that lives in its own shit is unsanitary and will make you sick and thus be burned at the stake, or you can tell them that God told you to tell them not to eat pigs, in which case you become a prophet.

In conclusion, all religions suck, but because other religions have virtually stopped governing their people (ie the western world) they've advanced and the Mid East has remained loseresk because of Islam's claim on it.

Well, sometimes they try to install more theocracies, like say, the Bush administration, but thankfully in the modern world the majority of people realize that it just isn't a good idea to be ruled by a religion. Homosexualism is the dominant religion in my state. It's now illegal to have conventional sex without at least two different orifices being involved, and heterosexual marriage is outlawed. It kind of sucks.
