QUOTE
The original idea for the Clone Wars (which I read as a kid in the 1980's) went something like this -
Old Republic scientist had invented cloining technology hundreds of years before the stories we (unfortunately) see on movie screens today. However, some of the test clones were unstable and prone to strange mutations, so the senate quickly banned the technology across the galaxy. About 50 years later, The Old Republic started receiving reports of strange, armor-clad warriors attacking some of the outer-rim worlds. When they send a team to investigate, they are quickly overwhelmed by hundreds of MANDALORIAN WARRIORS (yes, the same place where Boba gets his armor). The Republic immediately retaliates by sending it's entire fleet against the invaders and soon discovers that the dreaded Mandalorians have uncovered the secrets to the Republic's old cloning technologies and have been mass-producing their soldiers (so the clones are the BAD GUYS in the original tale) After decades of fighting, the Jedi and the Republic defeat the Mandalorians, but at heavy losses. Where once there were thousands of Jedi roaming the galaxy, now less than 100 remain. With the severe destruction caused to so many worlds during the Clone Wars, trust in the Old Republic's governing body and its Jedi defenders is at an all time low. This gives a young senator named Palpatine his chance to turn the people against the Jedi and the politicians against each other. With so few Jedi remaining, it is easy for his new apprentice, Darth Vader. to hunt down and destroy the rest of the Jedi.
That's just a quick version

That is what the PT was originally. Has anyone ever played through Knights of the Old Republic I + II (and soon to be three)? With a bit of modification, that is what formed the story for those games. Did anyone who played the games extremely dislike the story? Hell No! Have the games been extremely successful and thought of as being on the higher end of Star Wars videogames? Hell Yes!

I always hear about people doing rewrites, bitching, talking about redoing the films, etc. Well there it is the original idea. Not only is it gold, but seeing as how people generally like the games, proven to have worked.

I'm serious take a look at this, sit back and think it over.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

I never said that they were bad. Don't put words into my mouth, keyboard, whatever.

It is just a realization that I made. So many people talk of redoing the films, but I don't see it happening. No one has made an attempt on George Lucas's life yet. Think of it as a poorly expressed call to action. There is only so much talking that can be done. Sometimes some form of action is required (that includes hate mail). biggrin.gif

Good point. Also, the way the Old Republic is represented through just the glimpses we get from dialogue delivered by Obi Wan (in Star Wars) is already vastly different from what we saw in the prequels.

Still, thanks for putting that up. It was very interesting.

I think we have agreed a log time ago that writers of KOTOR 1 (I would argue about KOTOR 2) had a better grasp of storytalling and understanding of SW universe than Lucas himself. I LOVED the story from KOTOR 1
1. Plot twist - c'mon you can't get any better than that
2. The whole Jedi teaching, introduciton of Jedi code, reasons NOT to enter Mandalorian wars and the controversy which eventually seved as a basis for KOTOR 2 is soo much better than in films
3. And last but not least, the romance between female player and Carht. I know a lot of people hate it, and I can't fathom why. It is zillion times better than the forced teenage staring in AOTC and ROTS.

Ans sadly, Zatoichi there is absolutely nothing official said about KOTOR 3. I did a little research, and there are only silly unconfirmed rumours. IF ther is part three it's a log way off.

My brother and I have covered almost all of the different combinations of male/female and light/dark. I think that the romance in all roles was well done, or at the very least believable.

What I mean to say is that the PT should be remade off of the original template. Very soon I am going to begin reading people's rewrites of the trilogy to see what others have come up with. If I feel the need, I might do a rewite myself. The plot presented here seems much more believable to me than the movies. Remaking the movies maight invalidate a lot of things, but at least it would be a hell of a lot better.

As Chefelf once pointed out, the films are there - there won't be any remake. We are stuck with what we've got. I've read a lot of ideas of what prequels might have looked like, I liked some of them, some of them were just as hilarious and artificial as the actual prequels itself. I canłt see much point of doing the job- no matter what happens, nobody is going to remake the films mow.

What is great about SW universe is that it has a life of its own, and even if it is mostly controlled by the Evil Mogul himself, there is still hope for further jewels like KOTOR to be born of it. I consider KOTOR as one of the unlooked -for blessings of life, like warm weather in November. I can dream about it, make my own stories and forget about reality for some time, just like I was able to do with OT, ANH and ESB.

If the re-writes of PT bring people joy and consolation, fine. I'd rather write some KOTOR fanfiction, even if it brings joy to nobody but myself (I very much doubt if anyone would be interested in the sort of fanfiction I have in mind.)

Anyway, if you write anything let us know. smile.gif

I might check out what you've written. I never will give up hope that a remake may be done, instead of another "special edition". The problem is that we might have to wait untill GL dies, or something along those lines.

There is, for example a whole website of fanfiction for KOTOR (I believe fanfiction.net is the address, you have to look up under Star Wars). There are plenty of good stories concerning KOTOR there.

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Oh, yes, I have read several of them, including Mutual Incompatibility, and that was HILARIOUS!
But I am very, very much famale-Revan-oriented and I suppose you know how it feels, once you take some ideas into your head it just sits there. So I am sure my stories for female Revan would not just seem right to you. And they would be unbelievably romantic, if I ever get round to writing something.

And by the way, I bought and finish KOTOR 2. I know just how much you hate it, but honestly, while it has its shortcomings, it is nowhere near as bad as prequels compared to OT. Really! I bought it mostly because I wanted to know what happens next to Revan and Carth and tell you what, I was not disappointed in that respect.

And lovely to see you back! smile.gif

Wait , why do you hate it. I know it got totally botched and confusing because of that. For some reason Obidian had an absurd time limit. Bioware did the first in three years, and Obsidian did the second in one year. I have surmized that with three years, Obsidion would have wiped the floor with Bioware. Anyways, Helena I have begun to read some of your work and have greatly enjoyed it. I have also read through The Remember's Takes.

For certain! The game mechanics of KOTOR II already wiped the floor with KOTOR I. The D-pad menu was better, the influence system was awesome and gave the game more depth, the morality was less black and white (or should I say red and blue?), and there were more feats and Force powers to choose from.
