"I loved you like a Brother Anakin,...."

"Even though we're not permitted to have such asttachments as Jedi and on one hand I take issue with you and Padme and on the other this, ah Lucas! You suck!"

I know its really splitting hairs in a way, one from a beard, the other, well, where hair was supposed to be before not realizing his opponent had the higher ground and he "went for it", but this damned contradictory loop makes itself evident when in one scene its said you definately can't do this and in a few later, the contradiction presents itself like an anvil hitting somebody square on the head.

And i know the differences between romantic love and brotherly love so you don't have to bring that up. The notion of "love" is forbidden which is stupid in and of itself because this non-attachment cop-out says in effect that they're not sentient, thinking human beings but nothing better than clones, who at least don't all look alike and turn around en masse when someone says, "Cody!"

All the makings of an interesting love triangle were there too. The gap in ages between Obi Wan, Padme, and Anakin complimented itself nicely. Obi Wan was older than Padme just slightly and she could have had more in common with him than Anakin. She could have wanted to be a kid again while hanging out with Anakin, perhaps living a childhood she never had or was allowed to have (the boinking of the senatorial intern program alluded to in ATOC notwithstanding) and been drawn to Obii Wan because of the responsibilities she knew she had to live up to as did he. His loss of his master and hers of her concern for her people could have led to an interesting foundation ajnd seeds of a rivalry.

Throw in Palpatine and a secret of transferring your physcial self into a bionic being to live forever, and the fact Palpatine is a clone who learned the secret how to do this from his original, who he then promptly killed, you have a story, and a nice parallel to the Anakin making C-3P) as hhe started the process that made him Vader. Add the dimension that Padme's dying and she's held on to life artificially just to deliver the twins but Anakin wants to use this dark power to forsake the twins lives and have her be a cybergenic entity along with himself and you have some drama. Add the dimension that Obi Wan knows she's better off passing on than in this hellish state (and since he has an attachment to her he's not the most unbiased guy on this matter) and you have some tension for the final drama.

All those elements were there to be fleshed out to make a real killer of a trilogy, but Lucas' grey matter is right up front exposed on his beard.

I agree and that sums up the whole problem with the PT. All the elements of a great story were there but it was poorly executed.

Palpatine and Anakin could have been made into a great Iago and Othello type of relationship (if any of you are lucky enough to have watched that great Shakespearian play) but instead it was just a complete mess and we (the audience) had instead the honour of watching Anakin being manipulated in ways a seven year old wouldn't fall for.
