Lightsabers would make bad 'toys'. It would be too easy to accidently press the button, and then it would be the end for your sex life.

I think it's a bit nit-piky, myself.
I was in the Army, and dropping your gun was about the worst sin you could commit, by the bitching
out that followed. That doesn't mean the instructors were immune from dropping a weapon when they take some kind of impact. It does serve to try and make you focus on not dropping your weapon in a dark swamp when you airdrop in, which would be....bad.

Aside from the cringe insiring amount of times Lucas forced obi-Wan to say "my young padawan.."
in episode 2, Obi-wan is the greatest Jedi ever, I will make a new post for that though.

Maybe instead of knowitalls, the Jedi should have tried to actively recruit military drill sergeants. Could you imagine how effective R. Lee Ermey, who played Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket would have been as a Jedi Master?

QUOTE
Gunnery Jedi Hartman: If you ladies leave my planet, if you survive recruit training, you will be a Jedi. You will be a minister of truth and justice praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life in the galaxy. You are not even sentient, fucking beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on Wookies, Rodians, Humans or Mon Calamari. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Jedi. Do you maggots understand that?

THAT would have been a hell of an awakening to that snotty little twit Anakin became!

QUOTE
Gunnery Jedi Hartman: Did your parents have any children that lived?
Padawan: Sir, yes, sir.
Gunnery Jedi Hartman: I'll bet they regret that. You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece. How tall are you, padawan?
Padawan: Sir, five-foot-nine, sir.
Gunnery Jedi Hartman: Five-foot-nine, I didn't know they stacked shit that high.

Ouch. I could well imagine "grown up" Anakin leaving a load in his shorts after that one!

QUOTE
Gunnery Jedi Hartman: The deadliest weapon in the galaxy is a Jedi and his lightsaber. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your lightsaber is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead Jedi and then you will be in a glaxy of shit because Jedi are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?

Yeah, there would go the PG rating, but Palpatine would have had a REAL fight on his hands and we MIGHT have had an interesting PT.

Well...there goes the PT rating and all the Fantasy stuff.

But I would have loved to see that scene...rofl

However, am I the only one who thinks that this totally contradicts the scene in TESB where Yoda tells Luke basically that he doesn't need his ls to confront the dark side? Or is it just me and Darth Sillyname?

Hey, it worked for "Space Above and Beyond" (who literally had Ermey) and Starship Troopers, both fantasy wars! wink.gif

That was most impressive, Miladyblue. Gunnery Jedi Hartman. Awesome! Very impressive. I wish it was like that. None of those Jedi would have gone down like wimps against droids, clone troopers, or Palpatine. They needed some solid training.

The statement about nit picking was sarcasm! Nothing is more entertaining than arguing with a fanboy who defends every detail of star wars to the death.

The force's greatest power? Allowing said fanboys to explain away gratuitous inconsistencies and implausible events ...

there is also nothing more irritating than a basher who only posts to argue with the fanboys..... look at imdb or force.net for proof of this...

A light saber is a elegant weapon much better than a clumsy blaster.

If Ani hadn't had his lightsaber on Mustafar, he'd be more than toast; he's be Obi-Wan's breakfast. biggrin.gif
