While there are MANY nit picks and points that can be and have been mentioned regarding why the PT was disappointing to say the least, I have to say that the Aura Sing character sums up what was wrong with the process to screen that existed for the PT.

Aura Sing? She's the supposed bounty hunter you see in Ep. 1 during the Pod Race standing on a cliff and looking over at the action, an introduction supposedly for sometime in the other two movies. Neglecting Anton Chekov's rule to writers that a gun introduced in act one should be used by act 3 (or something to that effect, don't introduce stuff for filler, things need to have a purpose in telling a story) Lucas throws a lot of visual candy that seems interesting but has no purpose to the story.

This big, bad bounty hunter isn't seen again, I can't vouch for the cartoon, comic books, or other EU filler, but its strage something like that is shown so prominently and then dropped. Anyhow, I'm sure you all have that one thing that was a PT killer, the embodiment of all that went wrong in one or two words, let's hear them!

Two words? Annie Skywalker? biggrin.gif or George Lucas, of course.

Your point about Aura Sing (how did you learn this character's name anyway?) is a good one and applies to other important elements of the prequels. Lucas introduces big ideas he fails to develop (e.g. the prophecy about the "Chosen One" that never gets an adequate explanation). He also does the reverse, suddenly introducing ideas without setting them up first (e.g. the posthumous wisdom of Qui-Gon.)

Interestingly enough I learned the character's name whern I saw the 12 inch figure of her and a book on sale at a store that carries remainder stuff, like when another store goes bankrupt or sells its inventory at ten cents on the dollar to make room. It was this boxed bounty hunters set that had the name and a lame figure plus pictures of her, and no i didn't buy one, I didn't even pick it up.

I Googled the name and got some images, looks like someone I'd encounter at a local park rather than being a really exotic other worldly thing you'd only encounter in the SW universe.

The Yoda "a prophecy misread could be" reinforces the lame undercurrent you alluded to. I chose one thing that appeared on screen and in fan forums with a lot of hoopla and didn't need to be there. Its almost as if Lucass has an obsessive compulsive disorder regarding his own "master vision". Maybe being responsible to a studio and bank for the OT was the best thing to ensure he made a film that made sense and had a story.

Still, I find it tough to believe that Aura could hold her own with IG-88, Bossk, Dengar, 4-LOM, and Zukkus. I do believe she could hold her own with Boba Fett because of the lame way he's presented in the PT, unfortunately.

I would have to say she would be dead before you could say, umm, Aura Sing is dead!

Your forgetting George Lucas's rule of storytelling:

Why use a bounty hunter introduced in Act 1 when you could just create an entirely new bounty hunter and new costume for Act 2?

There was a lot of fanfare in that she was supposed to appear in Episode 2 but they managed to wedge a shot of her in to Episode 1, making us think she had an important part.

Would have been interesting that the secret of Anakin being the "chosen one" got out and he had to del with bounty hunters on and off in addition to his regular routine. Would have added more of a sting to the bridge scene in ESB when he has to call upon them to get the Millennium Falcon.

Maybe she was supposed to be the gal/face shifter who Obi Wan encounters in the nightclub who shoots the dart. Either way, its odd they developed stuff with such fanfare as mentioned before and seem to have forgotten about it. In the ATOC summary GL is more content in explaining that they added CGI sparks for Jango Fett's backpack when he takes a hit during the arena fight than explaining plot points like he does for the OT DVD commentary.

Stop ragging on Aurra Sing! She's my favourite character! I can't believe you haven't seen the Dark Horse where she forms a bowling team with Wicket W Warrick, Salacious P Crumb and Elan Sleazebaggano, and cleans up a seven-ten split to win the championship game! And you call yourself Star Wars fans...
