There are many theories on this topic but how does one increase gravity...let me know your opinion.
OH NO!!!

You have to be kidding me. Another science topic? AAARGH!

Well, gravity cna be increased with you going to a planet or moon with more gravity. Sucess!
Sorry, you won't be seeing a smartass sig here. Try with the next poster.

The gravity of something is increased when you add more mass to it.

Really fast spinning, or something along those lines can simulate gravity (a.k.a. artificial gravity). Well, that’s how it is in a bunch of SiFi movies, books, and such.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

Well, according to Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation
QUOTE (Isaac Newton)
Any two objects separated in space are attracted to each other by a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

So try going downstairs.

Dr Lecter is right, the closer you are to the center of the planet, the more gravity there is.

Although... digging underground wouldn't work because the ammount of mass under you would be decreased meaning it wouldn't have as much effect, if it had any, or it might be negatively effective.

so if you dug through the center, would it be easier to dig back to the surface?

I have a Very steep driveway. If I roll out (backwards) in nuetral, gravity takes affect and I have this great "lesser g" moment before I reach terminal velocity. Or apply the brake. It's great to scare people that way. smile.gif

planitary gravity seems to be mass realated so i'd recomend off world mining for building materials, thus increasing our planitary quota of atoms from 10 to the power of 600 to something higher...

something i'm sure we'll blindly do in the not too distant future...

Sun, here i come.

That's an odd question, if you continued on at straight from your previous tunnel, I suppose it should be easier, but then you would have the effect of the gravity of the mass all around you. That and you're tunnel would probably collapse due to the gravitational pull of all the matter around you to the matter on the other side of the tunnel. So you would probably die long before you ever reached the centre. And even that would be assuming that over 50% of the total matter contained in the Earth suddenly turned solid (the mantle and core).

You increase gravity with a gravity increasing gun. They have a gun for anything now...
"The problem is, you're not a kangaroo... that's a bear... and he's in your pants."
"Maybe artists shouldn't talk about their art."
"Well kids, I guess your father isn't a hermaphrodite."
"Izzy! enough with the rabid smootching!!"

Increase the Mass of the planet, make it spin faster, create more atomsphere (non-vaccum).

IS that right? I know gravity is 9.81 m/s^2 and is a constant. I once rounded it up to ten and got in trouble.

Spinning faster wouldn't increase the gravity toward the center. It would increase centrifugal/centripital force.

The pull of gravity is not constant, but rather effects all things equally, regardless of mass/volume, if you neglect air resistance. So it's 9.81m/s/s near the surface of the Earth. Though since gravity depends on distances from the center, there's less gravity as you move away from it...
